Poseidon is running 3 times less than M:I3 was last week. M:I3 had more midnight showing so its reviews might have been more frontloaded but I would expect Poseidon's day ratio to be higher. Hard to fathom but could it get a $15m opening weekend?

I just spoke with my theater manager friend and he thinks that Poseidon is peforming like a sub-$20M opener right now. $15M could be possible if business doesn't pick up tonight. Someone at WB should lose their job over this disaster.

I won't like it if Jeffrey Wells turns out to be right.

The numbers are truly pathetic so far. Goal! is actually doing the best comparing to expectations.

Poseidon 184, +16, B-
Just My Luck 102, +9, C+ (down from B-)
Goal 99, +15, B+

It feels just like last Friday with M:I3, but in a worse degree. Totally lifeless. I'm hoping my fortune can turn from last weekend and see Just My Luck fail hard enough to be another Hoot.

As I said before, I bet the box office is absolutely going to explode in the next few weeks if Poseidon and MI3 are going to be weak.

So Im thinking for Poseidon to get at least a 10 million openening day, it will need about 850-900 reviews. I think it will get a higher though.

June will be fine. The Break-Up, Cars, The Omen, Click, The Fast and the Furious, and Superman Returns (its one day in June) will all do good business. People just need films to be excited about; Poseidon isn't it.

The Da Vinci Code has a small shot at outgrossing the top ten films combined this weekend in its first three days, in my opinion. That should end the "slump" talk.

Yup. Like a big ass wave sucking up before crashing. People are saving their money. I think part of the problem for May in the last couple years is that April is no longer the dumping ground it once was. In the past April was complete trash for the most part...people stayed away from the BO until the big realeases came in May. Now the lines are becoming blurred. Poseidon opening in May 4 or 5 years ago would have been a $60m opener.

Maybe people just don't go to movies anymore and wait for DVD instead.

I'm wondering what on Earth would possess anyone to be excited about that one, especially if they didn't come out for Poseidon or MI3.

Well, not that it'll do $100 million or anything, but I doubt it'll bomb either.

Hah. Wanna bet?

I bet it'll top out with less than 70.

MI3 and POSEIDON skew to the 35+ demographic. X-MEN 3 is the only "blockbuster" this month squarely aiming at teens and young adults, and even THE OMEN should skew a little older than your usual horror flick..

2 FAST 2 FURIOUS proved that the core audience for the franchise didn't show up for Vin Diesel and pretty much every other Paul Walker film has conclusively proved they don't show up for him.

I predicted $55 million in the summer preview, so yeah, I'm even lower than you are, probably. But, that's not a bomb, really. 2 Fast 2 Furious cost $76 million to make with actual stars, so I'm sure this is around the same or lower.

70 million is actually a decent result for FandF 3 considering it retains no one from the previous films.

Poseidon = The Island/Stealth.

Pathetic showing so far. I guess the shit blowing up genre is REALLY dead now. I'd bet even something like Twister, which broke all records when it came out, would flop if it came out today.

And I hope Da Vinci clears 90 mil next week, that would surely take talks away from the sting of the last two weeks.

How disappointing as some of those films (The Island, The Rock, etc.) are fun.

Poseidon isn't as good as The Island, but it's better than Stealth. I don't know why it's flopping considering how many people I know who said they've wanted to see it.

Then again, Stealth was pretty darn awful so being better than it doesn't mean much.

Poseidon 196, +2, B-
Just My Luck 115, +3, C+
Goal 102, +2, B- (down from B)

But there are 74 written reviews for Poseidon, so Yahoo is certainly clogged to a degree.
