Quote: I'm sitting here at the Las Vegas airport and I have this terrible feeling inside that my flight may be delayed. I've spent the past 5 days just standing around. I've stood and waiting for planes to land and take off. For events to begin. Or for buses to move. And each time, I've had nothing to do (I need an Ipod). Not willing to put up with another round of boredom, I have decided to risk arthritis pain in my fingers, pick up my pen and paper and review 'Over The Hedge'. As I don't have all my material on me, I apologize in advance for not remembering the names of the different animals in the film and referring to them simply as 'the squirrel' or 'the skunk'. NO WAIT! I remember the name of the skunk. A hilarious scene in the film ensures that a viewer never forgets her name.
Before the film started, we were introduced to Jeffrey Katzenberg who invited some of the more prominent people in charge of the production and animation of the film on stage. We were informed that the cut we were about to see was only 85% complete. It didn't matter much as the scenes that weren't complete at least had all its sound and animation there so there was no break at all when watching the film.
When the film opens, we are introduced to the raccoon, the central character in the film. It is almost the end of winter and our raccoon friend who has figured that smooching off human settlements is a more efficient way to grab a bite is not having much luck today. After trying some creative and amusing ways to grab a bag of tortilla chips from a vending machine and failing, he ignored the voices of wisdom in his head and decides to steal from the local bear who is in his last few days of hibernation. Getting a bit too greedy, he accidentally wakes up the bear and in a moment of panic, drops all the food onto a highway. Little survives once a truck runs over it. The bear, feeling generous, gives the raccoon 10 days to gather the food or ELSE!

hate madagascar.
this is my summarized take on over the hedge.
its a pretty kiddy movie and i find it cute. its not very intelligent .. you have to lose yourself in the film and just laugh at the stuff on screen cause its not meant to be very deep or anything like that.

Movie:
Excellent fun movie for the entire family. Hammy is one of the best charcaters ever. Animation is very good. The plot, while slim is fast paced and very entertaining.

Yes I did.
Some parts were just awesome. The first attempt to get the red cart/cookies from the girls, seeing the hedge for the first time, hammy following the light (on the roof top), stella & the persian cat and others. This is way too much fun. It also has a nice message at the end.

the laser light thing on the roof was brilliant. i think half the people in my cinema were on the floor when that happened cause the build up to it was excellent.

Agree on the laser light.
Cookie **pleading eyes** is an instant classic ala Puss in Boots with the hat

Hammy is probably the greatest animated character... ever...
Every scene with him was amazing, and that's what pushed this film over the B+ range.
9.1/10 A-
Very good movie Indeed, very cute

cars is a film that i saw with a very 25 year old mentality. its a movie that was made for everyone.
hedge .. you can tell that as much as you enjoy it, its aimed at kids and their parents. so its defintely the better kid movie in terms of fun. i always said that hedge is waaay more cuter and funnier than cars.
and yes .. hammy rocks.

No, Dreamworks has always used pop culture jokes. Going back to Antz, that's their thing. And it's more bathroom humour.
Pixar isn't about those things. Not to say their films aren't as funny. Just a different type of funny.

Toy Story 2 is the most hilarious CG-animated flick I have ever seen.

I prefer Pixar's brand of humour to Dreamworks.

Me too. Basically because I don't think Dreamworks humor is really funny anyway.

I like the Shrek films quite a bit, but that has more to do with the entertaining characters than the pop culture jokes. On the whole, though, I prefer Pixar's style.
