TDVC is dropping at HSX too. I'm sensing some unnecessary uncertainty heading into the weekend. The numbers don't lie, and look like the majority of KJers will be laughing Saturday morning. I'm not wavering on my $80+ prediction.

It looks like there's a usual Thursday morning panic over at HSX, but DVC will bounce back tomorrow. There's just too much evidence in support of an $80M+ open, and the market will recognize it.

Okay, Over The Hedge is STILL ahead of Da Vinci on moviefone. I'm not sure if
this is bad for Da Vinci, or awesome for Over The Hedge. I'm leaning toward
the latter.

I'm not reading too much into that, but I strongly suspect that OTH is being underpredicted. I'm getting a $50M+ vibe from this, possibly even $60M.

Just wanted to remind everyone:
The biggest one-two-punch occured May 28th 2004 when SHREK 2 earned $72.2m in its second weekend while THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW opened to $68.7m:
That's adjusted for inflation: $76.7m + $73.1m = $149.8m

In other words: DA VINCI CODE & OVER THE HEDGE could gross up to $150m together - but of course - they don't have to...

What's depressing about all these lofty predictions isn't that a $42 million weekend for Da Vinci and a $39 million one for Over The Hedge will be disappointing, but that they'll be seen that way thanks to all these impossibly high expectations people have.

Except that these aren't impossibly high predictions/expectations, at least not for The Da Vinci Code. All you have to do is look at the tracking and the sell outs to see that. People who are still ignoring those signs are being.... uh, ignorant. lol.

I maintain that DVC will make at least $70 million this weekend, and your $42 million weekend will be long gone.

PEACE, Mike.

Tracking schmacking!

I go with my gut, and my gut tells me that Da Vinci's going to underperform. It also tells me that it may soon be time to poop.

I'll keep you informed on how that situation develops.

WSEX line is listing TDVC at $72.5m with money line tilted toward being over.

WSEX has Over the Hedge at $32.5 million. That's, like, really odd.

Da Vinci Code is now at 125 on the Yahoo Buzz Chart. That's retarded.

It's just a level of buzz they measure on their site, it's a tool like moviefone.

http://buzz.yahoo.com/movies/

Basically, no movie ever gets even close to that high. I think Poseidon had a score of 9, MI:3 10(though it might've gotten closer to 20 by the end of the week, I wasn't paying attention). So yeah, usually a movie above 30 is in fine shape, this is just crazy. Only two movies above 30 right now by the way: Da Vinci and X-Men.

Going with my gut told me that TTT would do 264 mill. Since then, my gut has a muzzle on it.

Rough draft predictions
Da Vinci Code - 89.6($24,000 PTA)
Over the Hedge - 56.9($14,000 PTA)
See No Evil - 3.0 million($2400 PTA)
Poseidon - 12.2(-45%)
Mission Impossible 3 - 13.3(-47%)
Just My Luck - 3.7(-35%)
RV - 4.3(-57%)
An American Haunting - 1.8(-50%)
United 93 - 1.6(-55%)
Stick It - 1.6(-48%)

Just My Luck should hold well this weekend. It's a fluff piece, Lohan's movies always have, there's no new competition, and lately a lot of movies with disappointing openings have held on nicely the following. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see it hold much better than that actually, in the 10%-20% range even, but I'm not risking it for the derby.

No competition should bode well for Stick It too, even with the massive theatre loss.

People are heavily betting "over" though.
