I don't see how it could open below $80 million actually.

It's rare for bad WOM to have an impact OW. Given the popularity of the book and the tremendous hype, WOM may actually have very little impact the first two weekends.

It is an adult movie, thus, no matter how bad the WoM is, it will rise on Saturday. Moreover, it's Friday WILL be above $30 million.

but isnt it, to a certain degree, a "fanboy" movie too, with a rush out factor on opening day?

There are no midnight showings or free advance screenings, so all the demands will come out on the weekend. I can't see it falling on Saturday. The frontloadedness caused by the fanbase will reflect on a smaller Saturday increase, but not a decrease altogether.

If the general consensus from the viewers is it's too wordy and boring, it can affect the repeat business of a 2.5-hour film and thus the leg, but there isn't much to stop a massive first 10-day gross.

I'll change my prediction once more. I remain the same on the opening, but add a worse multiplier. This will be QUITE frontloaded and WoM won't carry it.

Opening weekend - $91.5 million

Total gross - $247 million

You are kidding, right?

$35-$45 million opening weekend.
$135 million total

All the reviews have two things in common: Michael Caine is excellent and the film is good "entertainment." The latter should prevent a multiplier of less than 2.8, in my opinion. And, Memorial Day weekend will help it a lot.

Michael Caine isn't in it. You're thinking of Ian McKellan. ;)

Some of you are INCREIBLY crazy. This looks like a great adult thriller and should be the big adult movie of the summer but it's not attracting anyon else. If it happens to be a really good movie it should be able to do over 200m because it's opening wont be that big, but 300m+ is never happening.

Im just gonna pretend that this movie will be great considering the talent involved and from what I saw from the trailer, so for now.....

Opening - 58m
Final - 205m

Well doesnt look like it'll ge great wom, but still should be able to reach 200m, since the ow will be much bigger.

They're all old and look the same, it's not his fault.

I'm a little perplexed at anyone thinking this will make less than 200 mill.
