Post Question about Poseidon?
Does anyone find it strange that this is Wolfgang's first short movie. Does anyone else think there could have been a lot of background that they edited out in the beginning. Maybe we'll get a good DVD for this one.

For instance:
Although I loved the pacing of the film, it really could have used more character development

A little joke, did anyone else think there was some sort of backstory with that bald white guy who was in charge of the ship. I mean I'm not sur if he was just badly acting, but it looked like he survived a rogue wave in the past. Apart from him, the actors gave mediocre characters some strong life to them.

It felt like a whole hour was cut out.

The film jumped from one scene to another without much development or explanation. From a party to the wave hitting the ship to going from room to room repeatedly.

Anyway, so I did some investigating, and the original cut of the film was 125 minutes long. They say there is a very good chance of a directors cut dvd.

I thought the Rogue Wave was explained very well.

Almost as well as the Disastor in The Day After Tomorrow ... but not quite.

Personally, I disagree with the contention that the movie would have benefitted by being longer, as per my quoted comments below from the "Everyone's A Critic" forum:

I understand that some people may not enjoy this film, but to say that it's not well made is gravely mistaken. It requires a great deal of skill on the part of a director and his editor to make a kinetic roller coaster of a movie like Poseidon. Further, it takes tremendous discipline to keep character development and backstory development to a bare minimum - how many times have we seen otherwise exciting movies brought to a grinding halt by conventional boring set-ups? And then to bring this whole enterprise in at under 100 minutes running time?!? It's a well-oiled and superbly engineered machine of a movie - the perfect summer treat. (My only regret is that I didn't see it the first time in IMAX  )

Earlier this year I saw another great movie - The World's Fastest Indian, and the pacing was the exact opposite - very slow and methodical, carefully examining and developing the film's central character, Burt Munro. That approach was perfect for that movie, but it would have been the death knell for Poseidon. There's a time and place for a reflective philosophical style in moviemaking - but a summer disaster flick ain't it.

Less is more...sometimes...This movie would benefit from a little more background in the beginning.

Petersen said he always wanted this film to be short to begin with.

I agree that he shouldnt change anything in after the wave hits. Probably the reason he changed it was because there were crappy one liners. But I'll still watch it, I just hope they come out with a DVD with both.
