Is definately Audrey Tautau. I don't see how there is a single way in which she won't be nominated for an acting award in Da Vinci Code. She's been building an international following, and between Amelie and last year's excellent A Very Long Engagement, she's already well known in the States. Interestingly enough, she had a very strong English-language cross-over with the british Dirty Pretty Things. That movie succeeded far more than Dot the i (Bernal's English crossover) and many other language cross-over films. It had incredibly high critical praise and a very strong/long box office run that neared 10 million.

With this being her first Hollywood work, having such a following as to elipse Binoche as the big French Actress (imo), having proven her holding power in English film, and the immense popularity of the source book, I'm putting it down in print right now that she's getting an Oscar nod next year, 100%.

i do believe she's one of the many actresses destined for a nomination eventually, I don't kow if Code will be too much of an Oscar contender but the least it could do is further solidify her status/following further securing her nomination some time further downt he road.

I thought this thread was about 'All the King's Men', the film with Sean Penn and Anthony Hopkins. That seems like a surefire BP nomination.

I don't think her role in DaVinci Code, as much as I love her, is going to be winning Oscars. It's not terribly 'prestigious.'

And was anyone else really, really disappointed in the book? It read like any number of lame Michael Crichton, "this would make a good movie" thrillers.

I'm thinking The Da Vinci Code is going to be hard pressed to get any awards attention, especially for its actors. Unless its just a big huge surprise, which I'm still thinking no on.

The book wasn't received too well (critically), and although stuff like that may transfer better to film than through literature, I'm thinking the bad taste is still going to be lingering a bit.

I'm still sour that they passed up Julie Delpy for Audrey Tautau!

But back on topic... I agree with Rod: not sure if Da Vinci Code will have what it takes to get anyone nominated from the acting or technical branch, but it' will solidify her as a known actress in the States.

And as far as The Da Vinci code book goes...
I've never really read many thrillers at all. I ahven't read too many great books, for that matter, entertaining or essential.
But I found Da Vinci Code really engaging and I couldn't put it down. the only thing I hated was that after some point, it just started getting way too long!

Sorry dolce, looks like The Da Vinci Code will have a better shot at Razzie than Oscar noms now. Ian McKellen is the only possibility, and he is likely to become Gong Li of this year. He has an even harder time to survive even with great box office since he probably won't win a critic award as Gong did at NBR. Zimmer's score isn't being praised much, and the film itself is not a technical powerhouse to do what Memoirs of a Geisha did last year.

Little early to be already declaring that, no?

I honestly didn't expect DVC to be trashed like this.

This blemish should be removed from dolce's (long ) record. Nobody expected DVC to be so poorly received by critics.

I think Jack Nicholson for The Departed is our first sure-fire nominee, the guy just doesn't give bad performances and this movie has Oscar written all over it obviously.

I don't expect it to get noms at Razzie either, but it certainly has a better shot there than at Oscar. The huge majority of major publications has panned the film. I really don't think it can get a better score than Memoirs at this point, and I don't see it being another Memoirs at Oscar.
