Not necessarily. I read that there are some church representatives and priests that actually thought that the ideas and issues raised in the book were highly interesting. Read that in an articles a while ago with some quotes. Wow, I didn't know that. That's even more interesting to me. PEACE, Mike.
This is not the article, I meant, but that is from Dan Brown's website:
"HAS ANYONE IN ORGANIZED RELIGION COME OUT IN SUPPORT OF YOUR NOVEL?
Yes, many people in organized religion have come out in support of this novel, and, of course, many have come out in opposition as well. The opposition generally comes from the strictest Christian thinkers who feel the idea of a "married Jesus" serves to undermine His divinity. While I don't agree with this interpretation, this is immaterial because the dialogue itself is a deeply empowering and positive force for everyone involved. Suddenly, enormous numbers of people are passionately debating important philosophical topics, and regardless of the personal conclusions that each of us draws, the debate can only help to strengthen our understanding of our own faith. Much of the positive response I get from within organized religion comes from nuns (who write to thank me for pointing out that they have sacrificed their entire lives to the Church and are still considered "unfit" to serve behind the altar). I have also heard from hundreds of enthusiastic priests. While many of them disagree with some of the ideas in the novel, they are thrilled that their parishioners are eager to discuss religion. Father John Sewell of St. John's Episcopal Church in Memphis stated it particularly eloquently in the press recently, saying: "This [novel] is not a threat. This is an opportunity. We are called to creatively engage the culture and this is what I want to do. I think Dan Brown has done me a favor. He's letting me talk about things that matter."

Actually, we never sell this much advance tickets for an adult movie, they just come up and by tickets the day of release. I suspected that it was better then most "adult" movies, but how is that campared to Harry Potter or Star Wars or LOTR? I'm sure its less, but just to get an idea.
Actually, it nowhere near that territory. But I can compare this to Passion. Passion's 7:00 show was half full with two days to go. Let's see how much it does tomorrow to see the comparison.

Apparently the soldout at AMC Mercado is due to Google buying massive group tickets for all of their employees, something I know they are accustom doing for the big movies.

Here's a pre-sales report from my theatre here (the movie opens on Thursday here):
3 pm (211-seater) - 2% full (4 tickets sold)
4:45 pm (478-seater) - 4% full (19 tickets sold)
6:30 pm (211-seater) - 5% full (11 tickets sold)
7:45 pm (408-seater) - 48% full (194 tickets sold) !!!
8:15 pm (478-seater) - 66% full (317 tickets sold) !!!
10 pm (211-seater) - 17% full (35 tickets sold)
11 pm (408-seater) - 12% full (49 tickets sold)
That makes 629 tickets sold for the opening day already. That is far better than Ice Age 2 or King Kong at that point, but behind Harry Potter 4 (which had about 1,000). The popularity of the book here is similar to the US, so you can still get the idea...
I'll check the other days.

Friday - 313 tickets sold
Saturday - 227 tickets sold
Sunday - 188 tickets sold
Overall:
1,357 tickets sold for the weekend. Happens only to REALLY big blockbusters here.
Harry Potter 4 had around 2,300 at this point.
King Kong had less than 200.
Ice Age 2 had around 900

Same thing at my place Lecter... only HP4 had more advance sales at this point than Davinci... this is blowing Kong, Narnia, and for us Madea and ATL out of the water
Actually I just looked at the numbers...its only behind HP4 by about 275 advance sales (not counting midnight HP4 showing which we had over 1800 people for )

Dr. L: Do you think DVC can outperform Ice Age 2 in Germany given these numbers? Didn't Ice Age 2 get $17M in the first week?

We count it in admissions here and Ice Age 2 opened with 2,300,000+ first weekend, 4th best opening ever. That was around $17 million, yeah.
This won't sell as many tickets simply because Ice Age 2 opened just in time for Easter vacation here and got great great matinees...but in gross, it might match it because tickets for kids cost less here, especially considering Da Vinci is also overlength (extra expensive tickets!). I see it making around $18 million (and about 1,800,000 admissions) which is both close to ROTS.

Well, Harry Potter will really blow it out of water with matinees, I am sure, but Da Vinci has better night shows pre-sales here.
This wil be BIG. I don't rule out a $35 million opening day at all...
