And you should.
You have easily the most unique (and insanely frustrating) taste in film I've ever seen.

I'll note something about character development that hit me. I agree its small, but it is very well executed in the time it has.
But thanks to the great camera angles that really put you inside the ship with the passengers, you are basically there with them. And in such a situation, you dont get to know every single character, hence you shouldnt care if someone dies that isnt important to you. You basically have to put your lives in the hands of strangers. That was one positive thing that you really need to think deeply about to understand this, Peterson gave you the experience of being in an actual disaster, that you dont care who dies unless they will either help you get out better, or are important to you.

Fun as hell doesn't mean good movie... it means fun as hell. B+ is not an A

I took my mother to it for the holiday, as she always gets a kick out of water-theme flicks involving large tidal waves. We laughed all the way through it. She couldn't stop chuckling after Freddy Rodriguez was killed. "That was supposed to be dramatic? And you wonder why the movie isn't doing well?" Both of us thought there should've been a twist ending. I would have preferred the survivors to make it to the conveniently located life raft and cheer, only to see another rogue wave in the distance. My mom? She was more traditional: wanting them to get eaten by a shark before the helicopters found them.

Poseidon has too many flaws and absolutely laughable moments to prevent it from being the "perfect" and "best" disaster film described in this thread. It even lacked suspense, thanks to the incredibly fast pace of the film.

This isn't even close to being the best disaster film I have seen. I'd even go as far to say that Roland Emmerich's 1998 version of Godzilla is slightly better than this film. That saying though, after an embarassing opening CGI shot of the ship that reminded me all too much of Speed II: Cruise Control (The shot of the ship at night is ten times better), and an all too long 20 minute opening sequence where we meet everyone, the film takes off. That saying though, the film has way too many unintentional laughs to be taken more seriously than the first film, which is what I think this film was trying to accomplish. For instance, when several people were electrocuted, that was hilarious. And then of course the way "Lucky Larry" is dispatched when he says "Who's shootin' at us?"
The film works best though when the ship is getting knocked over by the rouge wave, and the way people are killed. Some are kind of unexpected, and the way a certain group of people are trapped and then drown to death (Everyone except for the people we follow during the film) is just badass. Of course it was done only so they couldn't keep track of that many storylines, but still, it gave the film a really dark tone to it which I enjoyed very much.
Poseidon is kind of an uneven mess, but it's a lot of fun.

Bradley, it's not like I'm the only one who "wishes ill" on craptacular movies like this...
And I don't do it nearly as much as you accuse me of anyway. I mean, I fully admit to getting depressed and wanting to bang my head against a wall repeatedly when I see people declaring Freddy Got Fingered to be a comedy classic. I can't help it.

Not a comedy classic?
I think the picture Tom Green holding few trophy awards for Freddy Got Fingered says differently

Yeah, I don't really think it's fair to point one person out for their review. I remember how many times you said The Longest Yard looked like the worst Adam Sandler movie in ages, yet when you saw it and Madagascar (which you were excited for), you gave it a B- and Madagascar a C-/D+.

I should also mention that I do not ever mention or suggest other people should not go see the movie anywhere in my review of it, so this was a weird time to make your point, Bradley.

I finally got to see Poseidon today and you know what?
I quite enjoyed it. It's not a very good film but I'm not sure it ever wanted to be. I would have preferred a few twists to the genre however.

Wow
Had fun seeing this with 8 friends in IMAX. 3 of us sat off to the side and laughed our asses off while the rest teared up every time someone died.
What *great* entertainment - even if it was unintentional hilarious!

I disagree. The humor was not unintentional...

I'll still maintain that this was the most fun at the theater I've had since Sith.

How could it have been intentional when there wasn't any?
It was funny, to me at least, because everything going on in the movie was so ridiculous.

Petersen made the deaths of some of the non-essential characters funny with an over-the-top style reminiscent of genre slasher flicks. Watch it again - it's unmistakably intentional.
(Not to mention, hilarious throwaway lines like when Richard Dreyfus is passing the crucifix up the ventilation shaft and says "How ironic!"...)

Oh, the best death had to be that of Fergie. Hahahaha. We were cracking up. I mean, there are so many cliches and plotholes I find it hard to believe they *intentionally* spent 200m on a farce. No way. This is almost as bad as The Day After Tomorrow - at least it doesn't take itself as seriously.
I had a great time laughing my butt off.

Oh, bradley witherberry...when you said "the best disaster movie I've ever seen" did you mean to write, "the biggest disaster i've ever seen"? Because that's what this film is....a complete disaster that isn't even entertaining in a campy way. Em Rossum's character does nothing but give us that wide eyed blank stare that Rossum perfected with her (horrid) portrayal of Christine in the film version of Phantom. I didn't care about any of the characters, in fact I hope that most of them would be tossed into the ocean without a boat, paddle, life jacket, or basic swimming skills.
Ick. -2 out of 10.

Did anyone stay for Fergie's song during the credits? "Love will be our anchor as we sail as a shippppp" or something like that. I've listened to it a dozen times at work and I think it might be the funniest song ever.
