Post Poseidon - Bomb of the Year
Budget: $160M to $200M

Opening weekend: $20M Estimated.

This probably would not do well in overseas markets unlike Kingdom of Heaven.

Result: Bomb :hahaha:

There were signs for this movie bombing quite early on from studio tracking. The NBC TV Poseidon movie had awful ratings. Most people including myself disregaded that potential sign.

The other thing is that nobody asked for this. The Day after Tomorrow had a nice concept and great money shots. Above all this stinker has Kurt Russell and Josh Lucas.

Sad but true.

From what I've heard the movie is not good. So personally, I'm happy it sinked.

This year had a lot of hits, moderately small ones, however the majority of these film were, lacking a better word, crappy. And I love to see bad movies (bad in my opinion, of course) flop. That's just my take on it.

Yeah. And when a movie like The Island flops it's just makes you go mad...and break stuff.

Speak for yourself. The Island was terribly trite and banal.

Clearly, the ship needed snakes on the loose.

Yeah, I doubt there will be a bigger bomb this year.

I'm sorry, but that's not possible. Not if Disney cares about DP07's and BJ's welfare :nonono:

I think this movie will do enough business oversea's to get this the break even when it all settles out so i'm going to say major disapointment but not a bomb.

Well, that's what you can say about almost any film nowadays.

It won't break even while in theatres. Maybe on DVD.

This movie has to gross close to $500M to break even. KOH which had a very good overseas run did $164M overseas and a $211M Worldwide total.

POS will be lucky to come within $200M of the break even gross, including DVD revenues also.

Well its no surprise that this did disappoint as much as it did. Just read through the Poseidon prediction thread since the BEGINNING, and not post MI3, when many jumped on the Poseidon may disappoint too bandwagon. There were plenty of signs, but most people here ignored all of them until the past week or so...to be blatantly honest....

Well, I expect around $160-170 million worldwide. It should do well in rentals, probably around $40-50 million and send well too. Eventually with TV licenses and DVD sales...it will break even.

I seriously doubt this will break even.

I am shocked that WB would give a budget close to $200M for such a movie with no stars. Heads are going roll at WB for this.

I think POSEIDON is opening in most international territories on June 2. Wise move considering X-MEN films are really dominant overseas and DA VINCI will be into its 3 weekend nearly everywhere.

More like $400m. (with a budget of $200m, including marketing)

No, they are not (as is the case with most comic book movies).

Still, it's competition, so moving Poseidon away from the crowded May was the right decision.

I thought the budget without marketing was $200M. If it is $200M with marketing, $400M is good.

I highly agree. The year doesnt look great at all for WB. I dont see the appeal for the foreign market for the film because unlike MI3 or KOH, its not a historical epic or action film that normally do very well overseas

Well, BOM says $160m, so it'd probably be even less than $200m with marketing (or lack thereof).

In any case, a bomb it is...
