I don't think there are enough of us to really make a major difference.
I hope it can get enough of the Bad Boys II audience to open in the 35m-40m range. I will have a larger 30+ audience, so it should have better legs. Still, I'm worried it could open in the 20s since this thing does have a huge budget.

I am surprised that nobody has mentioned this yet, but do you think that Colin sex tape will have any good/bad effects on the film?
I am not sure how well known it is, but the tape is now on the internet, in full, for free.
I downloaded the full video last night from BitTorrent. (It was quite hot, by the way)
Anyhow, by the time the film comes out, it will be as wide spread as the Paris Hilton tape I would think. 13 people have uploaded it off my computer since I finished downloading, so people are obviously looking for it. Hilton obviously owes her entire fame to her sex tape, but do you think it will have the same effect when it involves a make celebrity (Men were the main viewers of the Hilton tape, but will women even bother with the Farrell one?)
Could it perhaps have a bad impact on the film, if it overshadows the film?
The court case is set for one week before the movie opens (hmm, could this be publicity?)
I don't know what to think at this point.... I'm still fantasizing about Colin jr...
But what does everyone else think???

Anyone who was conservative enough to be turned off because he plays a bisexual character in a film certainly won't have their minds changed by the fact that he has a hard core pornography film on the internet. I think that it will be a wash. Older people might be turned off by it, young views might be turned on by it (in more ways than one I suppose).
Either way, if it gets enough press it could help. Any press is good press, right?
As the producers of the Simple Life....

It wont effect him, alot of people already dislike him.

Sex tapes have only hurt two people's careers . It never hurt Pamela Anderson nor Paris Hilton but then again they have always been portrayed as floosies by the media and so has Colin Farrell the male whore. Rob Lowe and R Kelly got hurt largely in part is because they were caught on tape with minors. Jumping on a coach and speaking out against psychology does more to hurt careers than a sex tape

This is not very mainstream, I think. Not considering what I read.
Opening weekend - $25.5 million
Total gross - $72 million

It looks damn cool and I am sure its gonna be a hell of a cool thriller but as Lecter said it looks that it could fail with the "mainstream" audience.

The commercial during the 24 season finale was pretty great. I was surprised to see marketing so early.

Just wondering. Because it has the series brand name as from what I know it has been very popuar in the US. Also, it should be a bit more of a fun/action flick than Collateral. Thus a better opening weekend at least.
The only slight problem with the brand name is that it looks nothing like the original. I'm not old enough to remember the original, but the vibe I get from watching some retrospective shows that talk about it, is that the original never took itself very seriously. Based on the trailer, it looks like it's taking itself very seriously which is obviously a good part by Mann since a campy Miami Vice would just be awful, unless it went the Starsky & Hutch route.
I do agree though that the brand name will at least get people curious enough to go see it, just like Superman.
As for the rating, I think a couple of people brought it up on the fourms here that the early reviews for the film said it was a hard R based off of the sex and violence.
38/115

Well, I was clearly around for the Original and so much that I watched this show releigiously every Friday Night at 9:00 PM on NBC and for it's time period, it definitely took itself seriously and was one of the more violent crime shows on at the time along with a show called HUNTER as well.. MIAMI VICE reeked of Coolness with the ass kicking Ray Ban Sunglasses and white armani suits and suitcases full of Coke.. It was gritty for it's time but by today's standards, it would seem rather tame, so naturally, Mann is goinna have to beef up the Violence Content.. I have complete, total utter faith in Michael Mann in making a satisfying crime drama, but only WISH they would throw Phil Collin's Theme Music from the TV Show in there appropriately titled "In the Air Tonight" and do a redux of it for the movie..

I don't know why I used the retrospective shows as an example. I remember seeing some of the clips from the DVD and it definetly did take itself seriously. Somehow that managed to slip my mind. Does the show still run repeats like on Spike or something? I've always wanted to see the show at least once. I should probably just Netflix the DVD's.
So the new movie is just the show but updated, grittier and sexier. And seeing as Michael Mann is onboard, and hasn't made a bad movie yet (At least that I've seen) I don't know how this can fail, at least from a story point of view. I'm still iffy on some of the digital shots that make it out to look like Collateral 2.
As for Phil Collin's song, even though it isn't in the trailer, it wouldn't surprise me if he uses briefly in the film just as a throwback to the original song. Even today, the song would hold up well if used correctly in the film.

You can catch MIAMI VICE on Nick at Night TV Land at like 1:00AM on a weeknight and if your real lucky, they'll run a marathon on an occasion.. I've never seen it on at any other time thna in the wee hours of the Morning..

That song worked well with the Con Air trailer and that was just 9 years ago

The ads are being played way too early. WAY too early. It's the middle of May, and they're advertising pretty heavily for a movie coming out in August. That's 3 months away, an unbelievable amount. It feels like this movie is set to come out in 2 weeks, with The Break Up maybe.
What, are they just going to play the tv spots for 3 months straight? It doesn't make much sense to me. Other movies in August like My Super Ex-Girlfriend don't even have trailers released yet...
