Post The Da Vinci Code Marketing
More marketing here than ive seen for any movie since the matrix reloaded. Huge billboards at every major avenue in my locality and a tirade of trailers and tv ads. Certainly the Da Vinci Codes marketing is much bigger than MI3 or X3's

It's big, but X3 has somewhat more marketing.

I dont know if its global difference, but for every X3 poster ive seen many more Da Vinci Code posters. Same with tv spots, trailers, and well...everything. Infact, I can only recall seeing one X3 poster, and I've seen about 14 Da Vinci ones.

X3 is sort of buzzless here. I mean, a few people are talking about it, but the Da Vinci Code has EVERYONE talking here. It's going to be VAST. Its marketing campaign is all consuming without being over-saturative. This movie will be Much bigger than X3 mark my words.

I dont know if its because you guys are Xmen fans or perhaps because your in the demographic of targeted marketing for X3 or whatever, but in Scotland for sure the Da Vinci Code has a helluva lot more marketing than any blockbuster since the matrix 2, which was OTT with the marketing.

I agree that The Da Vinci Code has a lot more buzz among mainstream audiences, but marketing-wise, I do think X-Men: The Last Stand is on top. Fox is going wild (though I've seen Code's trailer attached to more films...).

You guys act like The Da Vinci Code isnt Sonys event picture of the year. If it werent for Spiderman, THIS would be Sony's biggest project in the past decade.

Yes, that's exactly what I implied. I don't even know how you came to that conclusion. Superman Returns is WB's biggest investment, but the marketing is crap so far.

The Da Vinci Code's marketing is great. But I've seen more marketing for X3. Bottom line.

Not you, Zingaling.

I've seen more marketing for Da Vinci Code. Bottom line

Furthermore the marketing for Da Vinci is infinately more effective, playing up of the classic elements of a thrilling blockbuster whilst X3 places to much weight on the visuals and the franchise.

I think X3's campaign is focussing very much on its target audience, whilst Da Vinci is playing its campaign widely across all demographics. Which in the end generates more buzz.

Obviously X3 is focused more on the fanbase. If you aren't a fan already, the 3rd film in a franchise isn't going to interest you. It's common sense.

^ That is a studios NIGHTMARE.
there is no way that any campaign ever should focus on attracting only people who have watched previous movies. The point of a sequel is to make MORE money than the first one, not the same amount or less.

Plus its a theory that is kind of dismissed by X2's much larger gross and revenue than the first movie.

X3 is placing too much of its ads dollars amongst teenage boys and young men.
Da Vinci Code is batting for men AND women of a massive age bracket. Its scoring much better with those people as well. It will be the bigger movie. It's ads ethic is much smarter and more efficient.

Magnus' post addresses your claim. Plus, if the film were to gross less than the second it would still make over 200 million which is always good. As it is, I see the film crossing 250.

X-Men looks far more exciting than The Da Vinci Code which looks like a highbrow version of Indiana Jones with religion thrown in. If it weren't for the controversy...

Joe, you need to start distinguishing opinion from fact, not just in other peoples posts, but in your own.

I understand exactly how it works, magnus.

Even the da vinci code does not reach every demographic. Demographics are not only concerned with age.
The Da Vinci Code, though, is having a higher impact on a much larger amount of people.
Just because X-3 is having a focussed marketing campaign does not mean it is more successful at what it does. It is not, the Da Vincis marketing has people who have not read the book (they actually exist) anticipating the movie.

Does X-3's marketing have people who havent seen the first two movies or read the comics anticipating it? No.

I dont doubt the movie will do extremely well. I think $250m is a push, but it will do blockbusting numbers. The Da Vinci Code, though, will blow it out of the water. Simply because it has massive appeal to a much larger amount of people.

Here in Germany, The Da Vinci Code is getting more marketing than M:I-3 and X3 together, but I'd think it's a bit different in the States.
