I agree that this season will probably hold up better on repeat viewings, once the finale has aired. I keep holding out hope that the finale will be so insanely awesome that it will make up for some of the unanswered questions so far. And watching them again on DVD, without anxiously waiting for something to be revealed, will allow the true merits of each episode to be revealed. It's not like season one is that much better; some of the episodes are pretty poor, also. Like the one where Jack was trapped in the cave. That was bordering on soap opera drama. This season has been a bit weak at times, but it's really picked it up recently. Lockdown, The Long Con, and last week's, Two for the Road, were all very well done, I thought. All in all, I think we just have too high expectations.

But... doesn't this fuck up Hurley's plotline with Libby being in the funny farm with him? How will we know what that was about, or ... yeah.

"Dave" is just a huge waste of an episode now. It was a waste up until the last few seconds, but now the whole episode is nothing but a waste!

I'm actually glad they killed off Ana Lucia and Libby. There were too many charecters on this show and it cut the screen-time of many. Now with these two gone, we'll get to see more of Charlie and Sayid. YAY

I'm surprised they killed off two of the female castaways, since there are much fewer of those, and also two of the newest ones. The only reason I can think of is because of the DUIs. There's no other reason to kill them off, especially Libby who hasn't even had a flashback! It just seems too fishy to me.

[spoil]She's in the finale, in Desmond's flashback. If you want to know more, click the next spoiler.[/spoil]

[spoil]Supposedly her last name is Widmore, and supposedly she gives/rents/sells Desmond his boat for his trip.[/spoil]

[spoil]Hmm... alrighty. I guess it's not a total waste.[/spoil]

By the way, I just realized that quoting someone shows the spoiled text. I already read it, but it's good to know for future reference.

AWESOME episode tonight. One of the best this season. NEW HATCH! ECKO! LOCKE! CLAIRE'S PHYSIC! That Orientation film was very interesting as well...security cameras watching them? Freaky!!! What was the deal with Locke sending his map through the chute? I guess that will come into play eventually.

Poor Libby... I think Libby might have been working for the Dharma Initative before she died...judging by the fact that she was finishing Miracle Daughter's sentence.

Triple post? Excited much?

Locke sent his map through the chute just to see how it worked. I guess he didn't need it any more.

What was that about finishing Miracle Girl's sentences? I didn't catch that.

Yes I think the map locke sent will be used later next season as a way of showing that they found the main Other hideout. Just my feverish imagination.

I forget exactly what Libby said about Miracle Girl in the flashback, but you could tell that she was definitely connected with her since she was finishing her sentence. I taped the episode for my parents, so I will watch it again and report back later.

I'm not reading the spoilers for next week, but if this Libby stuff isn't resolved, I really will think she is the biggest complete waste of a character in this show's entire history. They built her into a story which was going somewhere, and hopefully it does...

I feel bad for Libby/Hurley. Cynthia Watros seemed talented enough, I wish they gave her more to do on this show. Maybe CBS will pick up her sitcom.

I loved how no one really cared Ana Lucia died.

It is my firm belief that they killed them off because of the DUIs. There's no dramatic reason to do so. It's gotta be because of that.

I love how Eko and Bernard were so universally loved that Eko is now a huge fan favorite rivalling the trio of Jack/Sawyer/Locke, while Ana Lucia and Libby will be forgotten by next season.

Eko and Locke together are very interesting! Who knows what we have in store for season 3, could Rose and Charlie become buddies???

If that's true, which I think it is, it's awful.

I tend to agree but it's also possible that the whole reason they were out drinking that night was they just learned they'd be written off. The drama reason to do it might be they simply had too many characters, which they did.

There were reports of the two groups of actors, tailies and season 1 people, not meshing well. I don't know the specifics but one could easily imagine the original group not liking that they were not getting as much screen time with the expanded cast. Then there was a news report that the season 1 group was given a big pay raise, but not the tailies. A few weeks later the DUIs. It just seems like there might have been a strategic decision made to trim the cast in order to pacify the season 1 actors and make the show less sprawling. I don't know what to believe anymore, there's several believable ways to look at it.

I agree that they had too many characters, but why not kill off some old ones, ones who had worn out their welcome? They killed off two of the newest characters. Why not kill off Charlie, who really has nothing left to had to the show, or Jin or Sun, who barely show up anymore. It makes no sense to kill off the new characters.

Becaues the audience was clearly more emotionally invested with the old ones. I came close to stopping watching this show mid season and if they killed off a few of the old one and left hte new ones, that would have been the last straw. I'm increasingly regretting they even killed Boone and Shannon, they were a much needed shot of youth in the show.

Locke's expression was priceless as he learned that the chute carries things directly to "them." Don't know why them getting the map would be a big deal, don't even know why he wasted his map he took so long to draw.

I guess the Libby flashback was misleading, designed to tell us even though characters have potential good storylines doesn't mean they're safe.

I suppose...

I would not have minded if they had killed off Charlie, though. But, I guess since he's arguably one of the most famous actors (from LOTR) and he's dating the chick who plays Kate, he's got immunity. Too bad.

This decision, to me, is as boneheaded as killing off both Boone and Shannon. The two youngest characters, and the only brother and sister on the show. Killing one of them is fine, but both of them? Boneheaded.
