Quote:
Final Destination is a 2000 horror film, about a group of teenagers who cheat death by avoiding a plane crash when one of them, Alex, has a premonition of their deaths. Soon after their escape, they begin dying one-by-one in mysterious freak accidents. The script was originally written by Jeffrey Reddick as a spec script for The X-Files. Director James Wong worked as a writer, producer and director on that series. The film is distributed by New Line Cinema. The DVD was released on September 26, 2000. The film was the first in the Final Destination series, which has since produced three sequels and a series of books.

Final Destination takes place on Long Island. Locations such as Jones Beach and John F. Kennedy International Airport are shown. Nassau County is mentioned. However, Vancouver International Airport stood in for JFK.

Loved it. Best of the series and one of my favorites of all-time.

An interesting concept is marred by the fact that it becomes a typical slasher movie. If they had concentrated on the psychological and supernatural stuff, rather than dissolving into horror and gore, it would have been much better. Still, it's a good flick.

A creepy, gothic little gem of a horror film. A brilliant concept is executed nearly flawlessly by James Wong and Glen Morgan. Manages to strike a perfect balance between outright gore shocks and deliberate, creepy scares.

The best of the series.... an interesting concept which is ultimately unsatisfying due to mediocre direction, acting.... you name it.... it feels a bit too B-movieish for its own good and as a result its harder to appreciate this as anything more than silly fun.

Believe it or not, it is actually my least favorite film of the franchise. Which doesn't say anything bad about it because I love the entire series. This one is the most serious approach of the three and the only one to have a lot of suspense and tense scenes. Its storyline is very original is execution well-done. Who wasn't surprised when that chick was hit by the bus? Sadly, it is lacking the inventive dath scenes of the sequels and the ending is a tad cheesy.

A very enjoyable piece of escapest cinema for me. I've enjoyed all the Final Destination's in equal measure although there all slightly different. This one is more reserved then the 2nd and 3rd an benefits from the least threadbare storyline of the bunch. All the death scenes we're suitable grizzly and it's always nice to see Tony Todd in a horror flick.

B+ for me.

So this was a pleasant surprise. Other than the acting, which was very mediocre, I enjoyed it. Very intense.

My least favorite of all three FDs. I HATE Devon Sawa, he is a horribly annoying actor. This movie just takes itself too seriously while the sequels are more like black comedies. It doesn't have the awesome opening disaster FD2 does or the cool deaths that FD2 and especially FD3 had.

This is easily the best film of the trilogy. Scary, thrilling and incredibly entertaining.

5/10 -> C-

The movie had a very good premise, but the execution was quite weird and the character actions were sometimes pretty unexplainable. Oh, and I hated the ending.

The scene were the Airplane blows up scared the crap out of me...

I like such horror films. They are scary but they are decent and they resort to suspense to scare you.

It is much better the torture crap they have now. Really people think guys who play violent video games are sadistic. People that find stuff like Saw and Hostel to be great are sadistic.

I agree with the OP in that it's the best in the series. Everytime it's on tv I don't mind re-watching it. I like this one most because it was fresh when it came out, the cast was pretty good and the story/death scenes were cool.

grade - A
