Yeah, considering SBD's sat numbers, they seem to be right only on Hoot.

Well its not a bomb at all of course but still thats now really dissapointing for MI3. I thought we would start summer season with a first release that will break 200. Well so long.......

57 Mission: Impossible III Par. $48,025,000 100.0% 4,054 $11,846 $48,025,000 5/05/2006
58 Lara Croft: Tomb Raider Par. $47,735,743 36.4% 3,308 $14,430 $131,168,070 6/15/2001
How convenient! MI3 is their third best opening ever by just under $300,000. I'm sure this was intentional, but it'll probably be close to holding up as the Sunday drop is reasonable...

I'll say it right now, outstanding really for RV. RV really is the only good thing about this whole weekend I think. That is a solid hold.

Disappointment for M:I:3, so I think the franchise is done for now at least. You never 5 years Cruise and Paramount might decide to pop out a 4th. Could Poseidon due to better than everyone expected? I think DaVinci Code will start the summer.

I have been one of the bigger doubters of Poseidon, but MI3 looks to be a non-factor immensely compared to expectations, so IMO it will do a lot better than it was expected to do by me at least.

Heh. An American Haunting is projected to have the same number on Sunday as it did on Friday.
M:I-3 should make $130 million total. Not awful, not great.
RV didn't fall 50% this weekend, baumer.

"NOTE: New Line has yet to report on 'Hoot.'"
Heh.
Should we go with $3.3m if they don't report? Seems in line with SBD's sat. number.

I would consider a $130 m finish from MI3 awful, because the first two adjusted for inflation made $270 m, and $260 m respectably. For that type of consistency, and then to drop down to half of the admissions, is terrible.
But this was going to do outstanding overseas anyway, so it'll be more than a smash worldwide, but domestically, it would be an awful finish IMO. But even from a $130 m finish, I think MI3 could still do $500 m worldwide, so it isn't all bad.
MI had the third best opening of all time, MI2 had the third best opening of all time, and both reached high adjusted totals. So for this to likely not even make the top 10 of the year, and possibly the bottom of the top 15, would be horrendous.

No way. It'll finish with about $400m worldwide, still not bad...

MI1: $276 m overseas (1996)
MI2: $330 m overseas (2000)
MR: $226 m overseas (2002)
TLS: $346 m overseas (2003)
WOTW: $357 m overseas (2005)
I don't think a $350 m + overseas total is that unreasonable.

And if it does finish with 400 wW, that is fine, but it is a disappointment domestically. And you can guarantee one thing, there is no way it finishes with a 48 mill weekend. I wouldn't be surprised to see that number fall by about a mill when actuals come out. Expect also a 55% drop next weekend and you will have a film that finishes with about 120 mill....disappointing for its domestic market.

You can bet the current slight disinterest in MI3 will also be noticeable in the rest of the world.
It'll have a similar NA:WW ratio to the previous Mission Impossibles...

Disappointing debuts all around. MI3 did very disappointing, AN AMERICAN HAUNTING did a little disappointing but still good, and HOOT did extremely disappointing.
There were tons of huge drops this weekend too. Just a very blah weekend at the Box Office. And poor HARD CANDY had a huge drop! Lionsgate screwed it over. It was widened way too fast! They should have started showing TV spots for it too. This really pisses me off. My theater will never get it now.

MI3 is even more disappointing is when you think that MI2 made $57.8 million and it had already made $21 mil from the Wed/Thur numbers. Xenu must be mad a Tom. Whats next grape juice for everyone?
