More and more I think that this will be HUGE. As said, there won't be much competition, so in some ways it'll be considered the summer's first true blockbuster. Not to the extent of Star Wars last year, but I'm sure comparisons will be made. I smell an OW of 80+ million.

I now agree with you. I think after MI: 3 disappointing and Poseidon not expected to light the B.O. on fire, DVC should be primed for a massive opening. And really, I don't think I could stomach betting against Hanks in a summer blockbuster.

This chick I work with came out of nowhere the other day and said "I can't wait til May 19th*"
"Why?"
"The Da Vinci Code movie comes out. The book was so good"
"You can read?"
*I'm not sure when the Da Vinci Code comes out, so put the right date in here.
The point is, it really is getting a lot of general populace and should be pretty big.
Like...650 million big.
:O :O :O

I still don't think it'll open to $70 million, but with the way it's been on the Yahoo Buzz Chart, it looks more likely each day. I still see something along the lines of $60 million, though, with nice legs.

I never would've thought a dark looking film like this that shouldnt even be coming out during the summer will end up being the biggest summer film, shows how things have changed.

I guess I'll just use the same logic as everyone else. With MI3 pretty much disappointing and Poseidon most likely sinking next week, the odds are very good for Poseidon judging by the polls conducted by hollywoodelsewhere. Maybe a 70 million opening and a gross of over 250 million

$150M opening is not possible. $55-$65M is more likely.

The interest among casual and occasional moviegoers is off the charts. The quality of the movie would have to be awful for this to disappoint.
The trailers look fantastic. The interest is very high. I think this will be the movie to beat this year.

After more observation, it seems there is more interest for the film out there than I originally assumed, but its legs still won't be as superstrong as some suggest.
Opening weekend - $64.5 million
Total gross - $207 million

So would the report also be split about demographics
"A black couple pulled out of a coralla"
"a bunch of teenagers just got out of SUV"

It'll be big, but I don't see a huge opening weekend. Its audience isn't the type to rush out to see it. $60-65 million opening, with a small drop over Memorial Day, and good legs. $225 million minimum, with a shot at $300 million.

What numbers would you consider disappointing for it?
