Especially the Alto/Baja California border - no major landmarks or geographic markers. Just the border patrol.

The reason it's Mexicans and not the rest is two-fold: first, Mexicans are the largest immigrant population in the U.S. Second, they tend to be the poorest immigrant population. When politicians are preaching about "saving jobs", they're usually preaching to the poorest segment of the U.S. population, who feel threatened by them Mexicans.

Perhaps if we eliminated minimum wage laws the immigrant "problem" would go away. Also, I could get paid more, instead of being kept down by constantly upwardly rising minimum wages which keeps my damn wage artificially low because of the increased costs incurred by paying the dregs more money.

Perhaps its because the poorest latino population are mexicans. Most cubans in america are rich and most puerto ricans are new yorkers and well off. Besides theres nothing about it being stereotyped, its when you say refuges from asiam you would think Vietnamese and not japanese
Also getting back in the issue, theres less traffic today in the streets than usual and of course near the Santa Ana city hall, you can see two sides protesting outside and of course one side is predominaly hispanic while the other side looks like a bunch of white soccer moms and a few minutemen I assume

Yeah as if the "jobs" that were taken were so occupied in the work place. Most people tend to think of jobs as landscaping, janitorial services and fast food occupations as beneath them. I know Ill get alot of slack for this but most people would rather be begging money off from the streets than to take up jobs like these. Not mexican immigrants anyhow, they are that hard working and will take up the task

The closest El Pollo Loco to my house is in Chicago... about 2 hours away. That might be beacuse we don't have many Mexicans in Michigan. It's all hillbillys, militia members, and crack whores. Speaking of which, I can't wait for an authentic crack whore restaraunt to open... that's an untapped market right there.
As for Mexican food, I usually prefer the higher class Don Pablos. It's fake Mexican food for Yuppies. Oh, and Olive Garden rocks too.

Gringorized mexican food does suck, Aculpoco,Wahoos fish taco and El Torito put too much sour cream and tomatoes in their main dish, too much red pepper for my taste. Now the mexican restaurants that has only 1 or 2 people speaking proper english, thats more like it, their carne asada gets served with alot of meat and they make their chata drink properly. Must be beacause the food inspector never examines the area

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/05/01/immigr ... index.html
Quote: Demonstrators began to rally Monday against a proposed crackdown on illegal immigration, boycotting jobs, schools and businesses as a way to show the economic power of immigrants.
Crowds gathered in Los Angeles, California, and New Orleans, Louisiana, but it was too early to gauge how many people would turn out.
The marchers also were taking their toll on businesses.
Jeff Salsbery told The Associated Press that he was losing thousands of dollars because 25 Latino workers hadn't shown up at his Carmel, Indiana, landscaping company.
"I'm not very happy this morning," Salsbery told the AP. "We're basically shut down in our busiest month of the year."
Also Tyson Foods, the world's largest meat producer, planned to close five of nine beef plants and four of six pork plants, the AP reported. Perdue Farms plants said it would close eight of 14 facilities, according to the AP.
Organizers predicted unprecedented participation in Monday's rallies.
"It will be tens of millions from coast to coast, from Los Angeles to New York," said Javier Rodriguez, a spokesman for the March 25 Coalition. (Watch activists predict huge turnouts -- 1:27)
Not to cut down on all the fun but protest hardly work if they just dedicate one day to it. It should have been a long term protest instead maybe a week or a month. Besides how many people can do without restaurants for a day or grocery, maybe a week would see an impact. I highly doubt that one day without immigrants would make an impact on the economy and business. Like always theres always other alternatives. It reminds me of history class where a bunch of factory workers tried to form their own protest before the unions were formed

There is a problem with granting amnesty. The moment illegals get amnesty they will prefer to look for other work that pays better rather than work in landscaping, janitorial, meat packing industries. That would be the ultimate irony.

Anyway all this will be a moot point soon. Unless the price of oil goes down a lot the economy is going straight into the crapper in the coming years.

Unlikely that will happen since most illegals as most people put it have a language barrier. To survive in a work place with a decent job, communication is a must. Anyhow if it happens, I have no problem with it, blaming a group of people isnt my line of thinking. If that starts happening, people will start labeling and blaming most of the pakistanians for taking all the high tech jobs

You know, I've always wondered about this: what if all the illegal Mexicans in fact ARE time travelers from the future, but after watching South Park (in the future of course) they became smart, and now try not to blow their cover?

Sad Clown & Krem: You missed the point entirely. Businesses want these illegals because of low wage and control over them, since they are undocumented. The moment these illegals cease to be illegals, most of them will decide not to work in these jobs. Then these legalized illegals may decide that these jobs are" beneath" them as it is for the legal residents of the country. This would require more illegals to fill in for the jobs that used to be performed by the legalized illegals.
Businesses get more illegals, pass the cost of illegals to the taxpayers, the new illegals' number reach millions, they will demand amnesty And the cycle goes on....

Businesses move around even more than people right now. When where they really tied to post-nationalism ethnic-states?
People are complaining about factory jobs when the factory jobs crossed the border long ago (and mostly to Far and South Asia).
