And War of the Worlds not making 200? You have to admit, we were alot closer than the piss-poor b.o. predictor's on the rest of this site who were guessing it would make 300+ millions! You gettin' that Da Vinci Code 300 Million+ vibe Squee? Are ya'?
Ill have to wait and see! I've only seen one trailer.

Not sure if it's been said already, but The Da Vinci Code is officially rated PG-13 (for disturbing images, violence, some nudity, thematic material, brief drug references and sexual content), though it's a heavy one.

It's tracking very well on the yahoo buzz index. 25-30 and it doesn't have the internet audience of stuff like X3. I think 350m might be possible.

It has all the perfect elements of a blockbuster in story, style, material, stars, production team, budget, the whole lot. Everything about this movie points to vast success. I'd be dissapointed if it didn't open well above $50m.

Good point as Da Vinci was really a very poorly written book.

Ehh Brown is at least better than Stephen King, who is pretty much the worst popular writer of our era on a line by line basis.

The thing about Da Vinci Code and even Angels & Demons (which I liked much more) is that they ask you to accept a truly ludicrous storyline and then try to bring everything back down to earth with this amazingly well researched material. Its sort of the fusion of two worlds, the amazing research that makes the story that much more real, and then this ludicrous storyling, that ends up being the books downfall.
Brown did a great job at research, no doubt, but he really isn't a "gifted" writer by any stretch of the imagination.

I liked Da Vinci Code and hated Angels & Demons.

According to the Cannes website, this is 152 minutes long.
No surprise there. . .

Take the time and read A&D, its a far superior book to DaVinci.

65/240
This will no doubt have a tremendous opening, but it's still an adult-oriented movie based on a book that not everyone liked (and many find highly controversial). I see solid legs, but nothing approaching a 4.0 multiplier. Of course, I also grossly underestimated Passion of the Christ, so I may just be all hot air here.

The Pope wants Catholics to boycott The Da Vinci Code...
Quote: The Vatican stepped up its offensive against "The Da Vinci Code" on Friday when a top official close to Pope Benedict blasted the book as full of anti-Christian lies and urged Catholics to boycott the film. The latest broadside came from Archbishop Angelo Amato, the number two official in the Vatican doctrinal office which was headed by Pope Benedict until his election last year.
Amato, addressing a Catholic conference in Rome, called the book "stridently anti-Christian .. full of calumnies, offences and historical and theological errors regarding Jesus, the Gospels and the Church."
He added: "I hope that you all will boycott the film."
The movie, which is being released by Sony Pictures division Columbia Pictures, stars Tom Hanks and premieres next month at the Cannes film festival in France. Sony Pictures is the media wing of Japanese electronics giant Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE - news).
Amato said the book, written by Dan Brown, had been hugely successful around the world thanks in part to what he called "the extreme cultural poverty on the part of a good number of the Christian faithful."

That's the best thing that could have happened to the box office prospects of this movie.

53/240. no way a film that has NO appeal to kids, little appeal to teens, no action or special effects, makes 250 million in the SUMMER season. defiently would during the holiday season, but i just dont see it for the summer.

The power of the Da Vinci Code! It's a headline story right now on Yahoo's front page, talking about the movie's controversy. It still has a number of weeks until its release as well, but is just THAT talked about:
