Yeah, I was wondering what happened to the King Kong part. Perhaps it was taken out because Date Movie had it (kinda), but still, it was on the poster.

Overall just a terrible movie. Some chuckles, and the only thing that saves it from being a complete disaster are the cameos and the Oprah scene.

I think my favorite lines were also the clever stuff, Zucker needs to go back to that style in finding the fun in words. with complete straight deliver
Cindy- I think I saw a face in my house
Tom- Did it have a nose?
Cindy -Yes
Tom- That does sound like a face

See a couple of the jokes typed out in a couple of the posts:
the glad to be at the UN line
the cindy telling tom she saw a face line
Both of these lines were pretty funny reading them on paper but I don't think they translated that well on the screen.

Waay too much adult humor for its own good. It was best when it didn't have to be dirty. I laughed in many parts, then was embarressed in others. I liked the first 30 minutes (minus the Charlie Sheen) a lot, but the end was dragging and didn't have as many jokes. The Oprah scene was diappointed. And wasn't King Kong supposed to be in this one?? Wasn't he on the poster? Also too many toilet and sex jokes. It was just retarded.
When was the Scary Movie franchise NOT dirty?

That was my favorite scene in the movie. But, that doesn't mean the movie sucked. I actually really liked it. I thought it was the best since the first (although that says very little, considering the "so awful, it's sorta funny" first sequel, and the inconsistent second sequel). The Oprah thing was sorta funny, sorta not. Tom Cruise pretty much made people laugh at him when he actually did it, so.
Most of the gags weren't overdone (like the worst movie ever, Date Movie), but there were a few jokes that should have ended sooner (where Tom shoots himself in the ass, then in the unfunny place... should have ended at the ass). The first SAW spoof with Shaq and Phil was funny because it was Shaq and Phil. I hate Dr. Phil, but anyone who is willing to laugh at themselves like that wins points from me. The second part of the SAW spoofs (near the end) weren't all that funny. Most of the ending really loses what the rest of the film built up.
All in all, a funny movie. Considering this is the 4th film in the series, I think it's doing pretty well. Grade: B
And no, a movie solely spoofing The Grudge wouldn't be good. It works better just sticking with a few major movie spoofs and working them together into a story.

I'm just saying it could be a lot funnier if it didn't try to be so dirty. Dirty jokes are too easy to write, they can do a lot better.

Funny, then that both of the scary movies that have followed such an ethic [3 and 4] are by far the worst.
The thirds best bits were in the Ring spoofs.
Scary movie needs to focus on actual scary movies for it to be funny.

word of mouth here is seriously horrifically bad. And it kind of floundered in its opening weekend here too and is on track to make about as much as the second...
I haven't heard one person say anything nice about this movie at all. Everyone seems to be saying its the worst one.
When I was at the theater on friday you could hear the people abusing the movie as they left the screen. A testament to the fact that the internets response doesn't always reflect the reality.
By the way, the jokes like that one about the face are lame and are largely the reason sm3 and 4 don't work as well as the first two.
The Shaq and Dr Phil thing was the least funny thing i've seen in a while. I felt bad for them because it was so glaringly obvious they were struggling to even pull off that scene.

Saw the movie last night and I can agree with that. Started the movie off on the wrong foot. The ending sucked too, I didn't laugh once or even smile during the whole Oprah scene.

More than half here are rating it a B or higher - and 19 of 23 go with a C or more.
Also, over at imdb.com, SM4 is the highest rated of the four movies (tied with SM1) - although, that's not saying a lot as they're all fairly low rated. But I think that proves not everyone is saying it's the worst one, and it's not hated by everyone across the board.
I still say it was an enjoyable flick... definitely not an Oscar contender, but the nice thing about the Scary Movie series is that you get exactly what you expect - a ton of hit and miss jokes. The people that go to this and don't like it, I have to ask what you were expecting from this movie? It's no different in quality or humor than any of the other ones in the series and you're kidding yourself if you somehow think one of the other 3 movies in this series was of a higher quality.

By now, I have no doubts that the Scary Movie franchise will never recover from sheer mediocrity unless something major about it will change. Like the director. I would not go back to the Wayans, though as Scary Movie 2 is even worse than the third and the fourth movie. The first Scary Movie is the only rally funny entry in the franchise. Scary Movie 4 is pretty much on par wqith the average third film. Some of the jokes work pretty well, especially those in the first half hour or so. The Million Dollar Baby spoof had me laughing the hardest of all, but The Grudge and War of the World parodies were pretty lame and had me just shrugging. Way too many jokes in the film were overdrawn and unfunny. The one with the guy not being able to get into the car for almost a minute or so, was so painfully unfunny that it's just embarassing. Considering the overwhelming financial success, I doubt that the franchise will ever end, but I was right when I said that it is time to give up on the franchise ever since the third film came out. The creativity is close to zero in this one.

I agree, Shaq and Dr. Phil were horrible in the movie, and I didnt like it as much as the third, but everyone I've talked to said it was hilarious. For every person that doesnt like it, Id say there are 3 that like and and 2 that love it. Sorry Felicity, but believe me, these films wouldnt make so much money if the majority of the stupid Americans will love this one, and especially much more than the horrible 2nd entry.

I can enjoy a stupid comedy without being stupid myself, can't I?
I enjoyed Scary Movie 2 and Scarie Movie 4, yet I consider myself to only be mildly retarded. Wouldn't a better argument be that you are truly stupid if you watched Scary Movie 1, 2, and 3 and somehow expected Scary Movie 4 to be high brow educated entertainment?

I doubt anyone is seriously expecting "high brow educated entertainment." What people are looking for (the C grades and Lower) was better flow of the story, better jokes, more anna faris, less fugly tom cruise dude, and less excessive use of slapstick jokes (how many times do I have to see the little girl get knocked around... or oprah punched...whoopie).
I took a look at the scene one poster took from Youtube and the funniest part of the scene was the beginning when she says "Harow?". That was funny, but then joke descended into endless japanese nouns for use as fake sentences. Overboard! Then we get the yahoo joke. Not too bad. Cut to girl and more slapstick.
Maybe my F was too much but the movie is just too uneven to really be funny. Too much hit and miss.

I apologize, I meant no offense by the comment, I'm speaking of people outside this site, the ones that don't know that much about movies, they are constantly enjoying lesser quality films much more than say us. I liked the 4th too so I guess Im in that "Stupid" class myself.

This is exactly what I mean, According to IMDB I should be hearing people delcare how this is the best scary movie in a long time, shouldn't i?
Not happening. At All.
Even 15 year olds leaving the theater were mouthing it off.
The second is much, much more popular where I'm at - maybe its a reflection of the UK's desensitization to this kind of humour, we need something more shocking, more crude and more vile to make us laugh?
nghtsvn nailed it. If you cut out all of the war of the worlds stuff, this movie is funny.
I really liked 1 and 2 and to an extent, 3. So I'm still uber dissapointed that the only funny scenes in this movie amounted to less than a quarter of the total runtime. I'm supposed to be laughing all the time. It felt really calculated this time round, wheras before it was a kind of free flowing humour thing.
I hope they kick out zucker for the fifth.

Not as long as his Scary Movie flicks keep opening with $40+ million.

the only reason they are opening to $40m is a great marketing team and a PG-13 rating

Yes, but the studio simply won't bother to change anything as long as the franchise is successful. You know it's true.
