-yeah they have four movies, but ya know what? ou know that. i know that. but 90% f the american public ha sno clue.
KIDS-This films prime audience-sure as hell dont. and if they do their waay too old to view. thats the difference between this and batman. watch BATMAN & ROBIN and the actors, sets, and fx all look modern even in 2005. superman isnt like that. watch any of the four superman films and its obvious their from a earlier era. there hasnt been a superman film on screen in 20 years. a good one one in 25 years, and a hit one in 25 years too. a quarter of century, yet thats not a big enough time for people to "forget" what happened in these movies? c'mon.
batman begins was BARELY marketed in june as a dark action film. this kept hype down cause it wasnt very popular with the small amount o fkids that even saw it. hence why there were no parents.
superman wil be HEAVILY marketed in june as a light bright cgi blockbuster-the kinda film that, ahem, excels in the summer. if it stays on a firday, no way it opens under 75 million. batman begins would of opened to about 60 million 3 day had it opened on a friday and had a friday-sunday weekend. 60 million. superman, with more appeal and more marketing, will easily top that and much more.
this film will bring in loads of chicks, loads of kids, loads of action junkies.
to sum up-
superman movie + july 4th weekend=250 million +

it does make sense magnus, just not to some people. i just think its kind of dumb that we cant use "its superman" as a reason all; the character's name is bigger then any thing else in the entire movie business other then star wars. i mean, whatdo you think people have watched more , more recently? SUPERMAN 1 2 3 4, or PIRATES OF THE CAIRBBEAN?
Exactly. these movie goers could go watch pirates of the caribbean 1 again. box office sales and dvd sales and rental sale show people have seen it plenty. so by using your logic, the same way audience will stay away from superman returns cause they can go watch 4 forgotten superman movies, audiences will stay away from pirates 2 cause they go watch pirates 1 which number prove, everybody loves.
or maybe its just that that sort of reasoning makes no sense. what does make sense is that if four superman movies are forgotten, they wouldnt effect its box office. and that if everybody loves pirates 2, theyd go see a sequel.
bad reasoning on your part.

and your mickey mouse comparison is HORRIBLE. Its cartoon that attracts kids only.
superman attracts kids, people looking action, comedy, drama, romance. speciall efects. young and old, male and female. it appeals to EVERYBODY and very few films can sya that. spiderman star wars and pirates can also say that. that is it. huge appea+huge marketing=big box office.
its THAT SIMPLE

Well, it's not really THAT SIMPLE.. Everything you said above is true back in the late 70's and maybe early 80's when he was on screen, but since then in the last 26 Years, our World of FX has changed considerably for the better and were now able to see MARVEL come to life with more interest than SUPERMAN.. Really, this mvie isn't going to be as big as you think.. There's not much interest outside the Net..

Fan-Made ShoWest Trailer Storyboards
A Fan-Made storyboard mock-up of the ShoWest trailer from this year's WB Presentation. Using an online description of the footage, two BlueTights.net fans recreated the trailer in storyboard format, and now you can watch it in your enhanced iTunes window.

If that's close to what the trailer is, you should see a couple of money shots everyone has been bitching about. Nice little touch at the end.

Cant you all see that Superman will beat Titanics record? Superman has more searches than Titanic
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=superman
44,900,000 results
compared with Titanic
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=titanic
36,100,000
Titanic sinks Superman roars!
Now you look at Superman 5's search on google
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=superman+5
See it has 27,000,000 searches compared with
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=& ... ack+Pearl+
Only 2,350,000 compared with Supes 27 million results. POTC will bomb hard against Supes second week
X-Men: The Last Stand no chance too, you people are crazy heres its google search
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=& ... tnG=Search
4,390,000
X-3 is also very internet biased so the actuals would be far less unlike Supe who appears to majority of americans
In fact Superman wont neeed a trailer, everyone who has heard of Superman will go see it. Smallville averages 6 million viewers so they are the more hardcore fans who will see it on the midnight showings that will break SW's records. Everyone who buys a burgerking meal with a Superman cup will go see it. In fact people from the future will time travel back and see Supe opening week
And you say that Supe has no buzz, Brandon Routh made the cover of Entertainment weekly that gets magazines published every week. Major movie fans read ET weekly, heck even if you have a doctor's appointment you will see a ET weekly magazine on the lobby, you will even see a ET weekly magazine when you get your haircut
Did I mention that Supe has a 75 million advertising budget? They havent even spent it yet, they are getting free publicity. In fact I heard someone will even dress up as Supe and leap off a building in Times Square opening night, many people travel to Times Square will see it and be reminded of Supe

This might do over 250 mil. but I don't think it will have the success of Spider Man. Look at Batman Begins. Good but only 200 mil. Super Man's success will depend on how well it targets all the quadrents. Will females care? Will young men identify with Superman like they do Spider Man. Will anybody except Brandon Routh as Super Man? I think reviews will be ultra important for the success of this movie and the actual quality could be all over the map. It could be huge or a dissapointing franchise killer. I'm a 22 year old male and I want to see Super Man but it isn't anywhere near one of my must see movies of the summer. Plus Pirates will make Superman look like a little baby.

Who cares if he was on the cover of EW Magazine.. That doesn't necessarily equal box office mega success for this film that's gonna have more of an uphill battle to climb, especially when stepping into Christopher Reeve's shoes who looked more the part then Routh does.. This is SUPERMAN, NOT SUPERBOY SMALLVILLE Style.. Also, Nice shoulder pads he's wearing to to bulk him up more and the 4 Inch Go-Go Boots he's sporting..

Didn't WB officially announce that it would be attached with Poseidon? It wouldn't make much sense to attach it to M:I-3 since Poseidon is from WB.
