 The Day The Music Died
It was 24 years ago today, and it was one of the worst days of my life , up til that point. It's not everyday that you get the news that your idol was just murdered, and even though I was only 12 years old, John Lennon had already become the biggest influence "in my life", and has remained so to this day.
I had been playing guitar for 3 years by then, and that all started because of my love of the Beatles. Lennon was my favorite of them, and I just liked everything about the guy. His voice was incredible, and his songwriting was awesome, but he was more than just a musician to me. His personality, humor, ideals, and overall coolness, were everything that I wanted for myself.
A scowl still crosses my face at the mention of Lennon's killer, Mark David Chapman, and I would beat him to death with my bare hands, and not blink an eye doing it. I have no idea why he is kept alive. If they have no intention on releasing him on parole (and letting justice be served by the painful death he would recieve on the streets), then they should put the bastard on the juice, and electrocute him to death. He's just a burden, and one that doesn't deserve to breathe the same air as decent people.
Lennon had re entered the music scene after a 5 year layoff, and the speculation had already begun about a possible Beatle reunion, and I have no doubts that it would have happened at some point. Chapman killed much more than just a person, he killed the dreams of a generation, and the punishment definitely didn't fit the crime.
R.I.P. John Lennon October 9th 1940-December 8th 1980

I liked the Beatles more than anything else in the world when I was six. No joke. I would read tons of biographies (well, for kids...I learned how to read kind of early ) and I'd obsess over a little tape my mom made me off her old vinyls of "Sgt Pepper" and "Meet the Beatles". I'm sad to say that I'm not as accumulated with his post-Beatles work, asides from "Imagine" (if you want a treat - download Eva Cassidy's version. Though it can't always replace the original, it's a good cover in which the singer emphasizes and clearly enunciates the lyrics, allowing one to actually focus on his words).
Thankfully, I wasn't alive when he was shot/died. I can't say that it would have affected me as much as perhaps JFK's shooting (well. I don't know. I've known the guy as a figure from the past who's work has been left with us - not one who still has something to offer, even if he did).
At least celebrity shootings haven't happened in a while...And...at least Simon and Garfunkel got togehter for a couple months

I was wondering why there was a behind the scenes of the making of john lennon's imagine album. I watched it and it was great. Except for the whole Yoko being everywhere with him I liked it. Sad that he had to die in such a way because he would have obviously been as big or even bigger then what Paul McCartney is today. I am only starting to get into the Beatles and it would have been awesome if there woulda been a reunion.

So let's just say that John Bonham was still alive yet Zep still broke up in starting of the 80s. Wouldn't it be awesome and friggin amazing if they reunited right now? Zeppelin was way past their prime at the end of it.

That would have been awesome as well. Even Page and Plant getting together was awesome, and not cheesy at all. It was also great when bands like the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, and the original (in makeup) Kiss reunited. Not cheesy at all. If those bands could do it, there is no doubt that the greatest band in music history could also pull it off.

My buddy went to go see Kiss and Aerosmith play in Toronto like a year or two ago and he said they were amazing. If Kiss can do it why couldn't these guys do it. But a reunion so early on wouldn't have been that great. If it would have been done in the 90s, it would have been the biggest tour in ages. But sadly the bubble was burst by some hippy gone pseudo-christian bible thumper.
It would be awesome to see page/plant/jones reunite and do some music together now-a-days but it would be so hard to find a drummer to fill in the shoes of bonham. That man was amazing.

nope
LED ZEPP WERE ALREADY LOSING IT BY THE
"Presence"album
BETTER TO REMEMBER THEM AS THE HULKING BEHEMOTH THEY WERE
Than a sad money-driven nostalgia act

CLARFICATION:
beatles, led zeep
ARE TWO OF ONE AHMED JOHNSON'S
most treasured bands
But he disagrees with the whole concept
OF REUNIONS AND NOSTALGIA TOURS
They are not in the
SPIRIT OF WHAT THOSE BANDS WERE ORIGINALLY ABOUT
We will always have the original albums

So you think that Zeppelin shoulda quit after making Physical Graffiti (I think to be their last attempt at true glory)? Should the Rolling Stones have just stopped making music years ago? Same with Aerosmith? Or do you think that no band should make music once they've reached the big times because we all know that money becomes a factor once they're big.

One Ahmed Johnson believes
THAT
When a band starts to repeat itself
OR HAS NOTHING LEFT TO SAY/ACHIEVE
They should give it up
OF COURSE
That is speaking in
PURELY ARTISTIC
Terms
IF THEY STILL ENJOY LIVE GIGS
(like The Stones)
then they have the right to
CONTINUE IF THEY WANT TO ITS JUST THAT
ahmed doesn't like to see great bands
TURN INTO SELF-PARODIES

Lennon IMO is one of the most overrated solo artists ever.
