Oh and by the way, people gave this much worse feedback than Elektra here anyway. Rent it. That's what I meant to begin with. You'll see how I was right.
I think Michael will probably end up laughing, for all the wrong reasons. How fucking over the top was that ending?

50 First Dates was funny. As a romcom, it was okay, it was a better comedy, though, than romance.
Something's Gotta Give was good, really good. I'd rank it pretty much on the same level as Love Actually and Just like Heaven.
13 Going on 30 worked ONLY because of Garner. Other than that, the movie was terribly mediocre and Ruffallo is among the blandest romcom leads ever in that one (which is surprising considering how well he worked with Witherspoon in JLH to my own astonishment).
Rumor Has It was very disappointing. Failure to Launch works as a comedy, but not as romance, McConaughey and Parker have no chemistry.
Hitch was quite disappointing. Same for Fever Pitch.

FEVER PITCH (A-) was miles ahead of JUST LIKE HEAVEN (C-). FP had charm, intelligence, laughter and groundedness and Barrymore and Sandler had a lot of chemistry to make 50 FIRST DATES work as a romcom.
HITCH (B) was more comedy.
RUMOUR HAS IT (B-) had Shirley McClaine's one liners which were so damn hilarious.
13 GOING ON 30 (A-) has a lot of hidden fun. I do think Mark Ruffalo is a bland actor, but there was much more interesting characteristics to dig, especially if you know a bit about pop culture in the 80s.
SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE (D) is probably worse than JLH, simply because it was so fucking boring.

My SGG grade has got to do with how much i hate lame adult comedies that star Jack Nicholsan and Keanu Reeves as a doctor.

I disagree Lecter.
I think it worked better as a romance. The comedy was all crude, male targeted trash.
The romance was sweet and endearing and Drew Barrymore really made the movie a true hit.

"Crude, male targeted" What's wrong about that?

Another rom-com bites the dust. Whoever decided that Matthew and Sarah would make a great couple, needs to be shot.
All the funny/interesting stuff involves all the non-central characters. Disappointing.
Zooey Duschanel is comedic gold.

Zooey was the reason this film was actually a cut above drivel like Monster in Law. The whole thing with the bird was funny stuff.

I don't want to. It looks boring and im 74.7% sure Reese Witherspoon is a nasty bitch.
Come on now she married Ryan Phillipe, that dude breaks mirrors because he humps them so hard.

No! I want you to see it. You know generic comedy more than anyone else on here, so you would know how bad it is.

what are you implying ?
Is it one of those movies where she asks if her bought her the milk
and he says "I was too busy thinking about you"
and then she goes and hugs him for being sweet
and then he makes a oops i forgot to buy the milk face behind her back.
and then the audience laughs and tells their friends it's great and very funny.

Know its one of those comedies that tries to use dramatic effect "i.e. when they try to put a sedative in Mark Ruffalo's character and then he goes psycho for no reason"
and then the audience goes wow "acting!"

Just saw this today, loved it!! It was so funny, I thought it was very well-written. There wasn't one character that was annoying or bad. The whole cast is fantastic. Sarah Jessica Parker might be slightly annoying for some such as her scream and just the general way she talks. But the story moves quickly, the comedy is great, and the movie is also quite dramtic.

Not all chick flicks suck. You should go see The Devil Wears Prada (since everyone else in the free world apparently is)

Failure to Laucnh is pretty much the definition of a very, very mellow and undemanding, yet always entertaining romcom.

I'd honestly rather sit through The New World ten consecutive times with my eyelids stapled to the top of my head than watch The Devil Wears Prada.
Failure to Launch was good, once I got over the fact that Sarah Jessica Parker was supposed to be attractive.

A somewhat entertaining chick flick, with plenty of laughs during the superior first half and far fewer during the inane second half. I've never liked Sarah Jessica Parker, and she was at her most shrill and annoying here. I fail to see how she's attractive at all. Matthew McConaughy is better than this, and he just looks bored here. The film belongs to the supporting characters - Bradley Cooper, Justin Bartha, and Zooey Deschanel, who steals the show. Nearly all of the laughs are from these three, and they're much more endearing characters than the two leads. There's absolutely no chemisty between the leads, and the film completely falls flat as a romance - as a comedy, however, it works a lot better. Still, the ending is terrible, save for the scenes with the aforementioned three supporting characters. Entertaining but shallow and silly.

I think if you saw The Devil Wears Prada, you would smack yourself with the idiocy of this statement.
Sorry for the delayed response.

Failure to LaunchThe plot might feel more at home in a Farrelly Brothers movie, but this wasn't so bad. It's not a patch on other McConaughy rom-coms such as How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, but it also wasn't the disaster that it could have been (though it was close at times with the whole animals-not-liking-someone-that-fails-to-launch meaning). He was suave but still showed that he could bring a different style that was required. He felt like an odd choice to be a 30+ year old still staying at home with ma' and pa', and his friends (Bradley Cooper in particular) also didn't fit that bill. His parents were very awkward, and I'm not sure it was wholly intentional. To sum up; SARAH JESSICA PARKER DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A HORSE. C+

 Re: Failure to Launch
This was an OK watch. It has a very pleasant cast, was a pleasant surprise to see Terry Bradshaw in this. Although not a great actor, he plays the grumpy-ish dad well. I was never a fan of Kathy Bates, that role could be played by anyone. McConaughy is his own self, and he really enjoyed him with his "Hangover" clique. SJP plays a good role, she "works". I loved Kit, she's the quirky type of girl I fall for. The movie has some good choices of music here and there, the outdoor scenes are fun too. But also, it's just not more than a run-of-the mill rom-com, predictable and needing to bend realism to create humor. These movies are just kept bearable because of a good cast. The script is overly silly, and I've had to shake my head a few times too often. I did like the overall directing style of this movie, but in the end it's not really a movie for me. Not that funny, lame romance, but it's neither dreadful, just an average chick-flick that isn't too bad too sit though.
