Dang. Mothers and children must really love Ice Age with that opening #. I never got the appeal of the original nor the need for this sequel though we all knew it was gonna happen. Second Rate Pixar films.

Also, i deliberately left out Block Party as that is more of a stand-up special or something, like Eddie Murphy's Raw ($6,500 avg) or Martin Lawrence's Runteldat (10k avg). You're right, all the other ones you mentioned did get "crappy" avgs in the 3k-4k range. So i have some that support my statements, and you have some that support your counter-argument. Why you feel the need to resort to "witty" comments i don't know, as i have been rather calm and never resorted to name calling or anything. Let's just agree to end this as it isn't going anywhere. Block Party is 2/3 music. You have no support. You said all so-called urban movies do well. They do not. Have fun at Stormfront.
Just because you say "all" doesn't mean you literally mean all of them.

i just read your statements that i trashed ATL before seeing and that makes me a racist, sorry but no. I trash all kinds of movies without ever seeing them. Basic Instinct 2 looks like (and is) crap, so i must have something against middle aged women also, right? Okay, block party is 2/3 music, so? It is still in the same vein as the other stand-up movies, only he walks around and there's music.
I get your point that i attacked ATL without seeing it. My annoyance with the movie is the way it is marketed (ie as just another "urban drama") but that doesn't make me a racist. At worst, i am uninformed. Enough with your stormfront crap, can't you find a new "witty" comeback. You could tell me that i should wear a hood...that's white...cause i must be a white supremacist also, just because i don't like the constant stereotypical portrayal of black people in the marketing for these "urban" movies.

It will immediately show otherwise, then why did Brown Sugar, the Brothers, Baby Boy, the Wood, You Got Served, all have avgs in the 7k-9k area, and all finish with 25-40mil. That all falls into the range of what i said before, so where is the huge error? Also, what is your problem? I don't recall personally attacking you, so why have you targeted me or whatever? I must be arguing with a middle schooler. Dave Chappelle's Block Party, Hooneymooners, The Cookout, Roll Bounce, In the Mix, Something New, Breakin' All the Rules. But MOST do well. And the ones you mentioned weren't of the gangsta sub-genre of urban movies, which is mostly what we're talking about.
They only hit gangsta movies of the last few years are Baby Boy (which was decent) and Hustle and Flow (which was good and actually underperformed).

As i said before, if you even bothered to read it, why don't we just stop with this now. I am not going to change my opinion, neither are you, so why don't we just back down mutually and be done with it. If you don't respond to our current argument then i will take that as an agreement to stop.

No, you said "It seems that ANY movie that is about black people automatically does really good, regardless of what it is." You are wrong.

Alright, i see you don't want to stop arguing.
Yes, i said what you quoted. But you said this: "to trash a movie without seeing it just because it's a so-called urban movie (which is what he did) is racist. ATL has good reviews and he attacked it baselessly"
that is the "statements" that i was talking about.
Yes, i was wrong that ANY movie about black people automatically does well. A lot of them do, and a bunch of them don't. Why are we still arguing about this? I made a statement that wasn't 100% accurate, i admit it wasn't accurate, so can we move on now?

No, i'd like to tease you a little more just for fun. "A lot of them do" which is something you could say about any type of movie. Thanks for that revelation.

headcrush are you causing trouble like you did to me when i first came to BOM.
Dr, i think you need to word your sentences better next time. I can understand your point of view, but these 'urban' films have their own market the same way ICE AGE has frisked every mommy and daddy to keep seeing these below par kiddie flicks, aka kiddie porn.
BTW, I love your avartar. Go Clem!

Amazing for Ice Age: The Meltdown! It should make $70 million this weekend.
And ROFL at Basic Instinct 2. Those numbers alone probably kicked off Stone's midlife crisis.
Oh well, seems like a pretty solid weekend overall. For the first time in a while, it's nice to wake up and smell the BO!

It's pretty sad that you can't have fun any other way than to bother me and spam the board up with comment after comment of "argument" even though i'm not arguing with you about anything. I already agreed that my statement was too general and not 100% accurate, yet you are still going like i am sticking with my comments until my last breath.
I guess you just need to feel like a big man, which is pretty sad. You have to come to a box office forum to get some validation that you aren't a loser. What is must be like to know you in your personal life, i bet people around you knock around like a rubber ball, and then you come to WorldofKJ to get out all your frustrations as people here don't know you are pretty sad. Alright, i'm done now. You can keep on going (which you no doubtedly will), so have fun arguing with no one.

I agree with Dr. Malcolm and Mike. ATL is garbage yet it does well just because those who see it will see anything apparently. Slither is 10 times the film ATL is (It actually shows some semblance of creativity, for one) yet it makes far less. If it had been marketed as an urban horror movie with an all black cast it probably would have done well.

The film got good reviews. Perhaps Slither is garbage.

I saw ATL and it didn't deserve the reviews it received.

Neither does Slither. Ripoff of Night Of The Creeps.

Well from the trailers, first thing I thought of was Night of the Creeps. Slugs from outerspace which turn people into zombies. It is what it looks like. Now the storyline might be different but the trailers made it look that way. The funny thing was Night of the creeps was a failure at the box office as well, and became a cult hit on video and cable.

I just took my niece and nephew to see Ice Age (hey, you have to spend time with them when you can, even when they want to go to a movie). 10:30 showing, was packed. Hmmmm...
