Lex Luthor would've been better if he was more like the secondary villian in the backround of all the movies, like he's always there, but not the main villian in any of the movies.
Again, they should've just went all out and did a Doomsday trilogy, I dont think a restart of the franchise is what this needed, like what was needed for Batman.
Seriously, I wanna see the Superman flicks become successful just to see a Doomsday trilogy eventually. Theres no way it can be anything other then the best comic flick ever created, it would be the greatest trilogy EVER!!

MovieDude wrote: Does this movie really have that big of a budget? Until a trailer proves me wrong, I actually have a feeling that it'll be almost completely devoid of much any action. Is the villian anything but Kevin Spacey walking around with a piece of Kryptonite? I don't want to sound like BKB, but if they've already got this sucker rated and still are struggling to show anything at all to make the film look enticing, then it only makes sense that alarm bells would be going off.
Stop beating yourself up because God forbid if you sounded like me.. Maybe the reason for that is is that I'm actually pretty fuc*ing smart and can smell a pile of crap movie like this is gonna be.. I'm telling ya and I'll tell everyone else while I'm at it: The world and general moviegoer who grew up with the Christopher Reeve SUPERMAN nostalgia are not, repeat, NOT ready for someone else to take over this role and no matter what the Late Dana Reeve's said about passing the torch, none of this is gonna matter.. Routh looks like a twig, he's not imposing like Reeve was at 6'5 weighing 240 LBS, and furthermore, when I think of the Man of Steel, I don't want to think I can kick this guy's ass like I can Routh.. Clearly he looks like a Puss.. Kevin Spacey, also a great actor, isn't gonna bring anytyhing to this role that Hackman hasn't already achieved back in the day.. At the end of the day Moviedude, if you feel deep down this movie will suck a pair of giant balls, then say it.. Who cares if you think your starting to sound like me and that's not exactly a bad thing you know.. I think everyone does at some point..

Actually according to bABA's review, the trailer does have some great money/action shots.

While too would rather see SR fighting Metallo or Braniac or some villian that can fight with him hand-to-hand, I still wouldn't mind at all seeing Superman saving a crashing airplane or saving everyone from some earthquakes. And honestly Luthor is probably the best way to re-start it up because hes the most known villian, and I think having a some-what unknown villian for this might not be good. Yes, and I've also seen The Usual Suspects. But up against fucking Superman, he looks like he'll get whooped the moment he drops the Kryptonite. I'm not opposed to Lex Luthor, but some physical foe definitely would've been appreciated.
From what I have read with the recent Trailer Des. Kevin Spacey sounds like hes very menacing to me. I guess we will have to wait and see the trailer when it comes out.

The money shot that seemed to excite him the most was someone shooting Superman with a "minigun." I'm not saying that the film is going to look like it was made by Lars von Triers, but my expectations still aren't very high.

I'm not saying that the film is going to look like it was made by Lars von Triers, but my expectations still aren't very high. Baba also said that Lady In the Water got the best reaction from the 4 trailers shown there. Heres also a report from AICN Quote: The Footage Wasn't That Great... by JuicyBusey March 16th, 2006 10:57:49 PM CST I'm at Showest as well, and have been taking the time to go to all the events and see all the movies. Next to the MI3 stuff, I was looking forward to the Superman footage the most. Unfortuneately, it was a huge letdown. I'm a big Sups geek, but I was extremely disappointed with what I saw, and a lot of other people were underwhelmed by it too. From what I was able to gather, the story of Superman Returns is as follows: Sometime after the original Superman movies (I'm assuming Superman II), Sups disappears. Apparently, he got back into his Crystal spaceship and went for a joyride or something. He crashes back at the Kent farm where Ma Kent finds him and takes her wayward son back in. She convinces Clark to go back to his life as a reporter. Clark goes back to Metropolis and the Daily Planet to find things haven't changed, except for the fact that Lois Lane is now a mom. But he gets his job back around the same time as he decides to be Superman again, and the Daily Planet is buzzing at his return. Meanwhile, Lex Luthor leads a team of people back to the Fortress of Solitude, which he had last seen in Episode II of the original Donner films. He learns all about Superman, and steals a crystal which can grow another fortress-like thing. Luthor steals all the Kryptonian Technology he can from the Fortress, and builds an evil underwater fortress of solitude (which somehow morphs into black crystals laced with Kryptonite). It looks like all his weapons are based off the black/kryptonite crystals. Anyway, Lex returns to Metropolis hell-bent on destroying Superman, so the first thing he does is kidnap Lois and her new bratty kid, just so he can reveal his evil plan to them for using the Kryptonian technology to kill billions of people. Superman runs around trying to stop Lex's evil cronies, finds out Lois is kidnapped, and flies off to save her. Somehow, the plane Lex and Lois were in gets damaged and starts to crash. Superman chases after it to keep it from crashing. That's about where the trailer ended, but I'm guessing Superman goes on to save the day, Lois breaks up with her fiance, the kid is really Clark's lovechild, and Lex is thrown in jail for his evil ways. It's everything you've seen happen before in a Superman movie, only with better special effects. It doesn't seem to have the epic scope that a Superman movie should have. I will say the best part of the footage that was screened was Kevin Spacey as Luthor. But from what I saw of all the other stuff, I can pretty much say with certainty that Superman Returns, while not being a terrible movie, will disappoint.

SR's runtime clocks in around 2hr30mins to 2hr45mins
A 90 million opening looks out of the loop now that type of runtime
Im willing to bet people will say the runtime shouldnt affect its opening weekend like how they did for Kong. Well no one on this board will but the BOM posters there will,

The 150 minute cut does not include credits, which for a film with this many fx will probably be
8-10 minutes.

also its been announced this film is going to have 2 sound tracks-one score, and one of a mix of pop and punk singles from the movie. w.b. really seems to have committed to the marketing for this flick.

When I think of a character like SUPERMAN, The last thing I'm thinking about when it comes to the score is a Punk and Pop version of this.. Somehow that just doesn't seem to blend right.. Stick to the Orchestra Score like John Williams instead of some goofy Puff Daddy version that's a downright insult.. It's bad enough this movie's gonna suck but come on already..

They are blowing their chances at promotion. A new trailer should have been released long time ago and it just ins't coming. Last minute marketing blitz will help, but this film won't be huge.

a few people asked me during showest what my take was on superman and i said the exact same thing. It's april and the general audience have at most seen a few magazine covers, a couple of columns on major online publications (by major, i mean stuff like CNN, not superherohype), posters at cinemas and one teaser ad that didn't show anything. the showest footage could have sold a lot of people on this film and should have been released back in feb.
everyone unanimously agreed. then we celebrated by sacrifcing a virgin. I'll miss tonymontana.

Or at least with V for Vendetta which would have been perfect considering it is playing to a similar audience.
Now it won't be released until Poseidon in May, I suppose.
