da torri's thread - Topic #5: R.I.P. da torri's computer

da torri's most loyal friend of three and a half years has now, officially, died. It will not power up. It does not recognize da torri's power source. Nothing can be done to fix it.

Something similar happened to my main hard drive earlyer this month. It was the power supply though, nothing wrong with the hard drive itself.

Get to a computer repair shop and have them replace the power supply. Those things die quickly, especially if they're cheap.

It's not worth it.

I bought it for $2000+ in '02. It's a Dell Inspiron 8200. The LCD's already damaged (there's three vertical lines across it - red, green, and blue), some of the keys are missing, the fan's noisy, the monitor doesn't stay up (it either flops forward or flops back), etc. It's a nightmare.

Maybe Dell's are better-made now, but I'm probably going with HP or Toshiba.

Oh, it's a laptop. I see.

Dells suck. (though I'm typing this from a Dell laptop)

Do any of you know how to take hard drives out of laptops?

My friend's gonna try and sell the parts on eBay (eh, $50 is better than nothing, no? It helps that I had just bought a brand new battery a few months ago, should raise the amount I can get from the parts), but I'm not feeling too good about letting some idiot hook up the hard drive or anything. I've got all my AIM convos...ever...on there. I've even got an e-mail with my bank account number.

da torri, your best bet is to NOT sell your hard drive. Even if you delete everything on it and reformat it, it will still have your old information on it. There are ways to delete data more securely, but the only sure way is to put up a magnet against the hard drive, and that will obviously make it not useable :)

da torri's thread - Topic #6: Pick Out a Shirt For Me!

I need a shirt.

http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/category.j ... ction=jump
http://www.abercrombie.com/webapp/wcs/s ... 1_-1_12213
http://www.polo.com/family/index.jsp?ca ... cp=1760781

Look there, and tell me which one you like best. Also, a warning: I don't do hot pink.

(Best topic ever, no?)

I'm kinda liking the Abercrombie Long Lake in Dark Blue. Nothing says "I'm better then you" quite like rolled up sleeves on a dress shirt.

Seriously, though, I like it.

I thought you were da dead. Where have you been, sucka?

You should definitely go ahead and not buy any of those. Or wear, if it's a gift.

When in doubt, go with Ralph.

I swear to God I would get free stuff from Ralph Lauren, Abercrombie, Lacoste, J. Crew and Aeropostale if they knew how much stuff I had bought from all of them.
