Perfection.

You're nuts, especially regarding The Matrix Revolutions. Michael Bay makes more involving action movies.

V for Vendetta
A-

See it. It's an important movie. The pace is off at the beginning, and V's entrance gave me horrible flashbacks to The Architect (though the scene's redeemed by one line from Evey: "Are you, like, a crazy person?"). By the end, though, the plot is very compelling and Hugo Weaving's fantastic.

V for Vendetta

A+ Probably my new favorite film and that's big for me what with SOTL, SW, FOTR, YF on my personal list.

On Monday:

Knots - 7/10 (B-)
Jarhead - 5/10 (C-)
--- I liked it for the first half hour but then it just got stupid the more it went on, and I actually liked the idea of it not being an actual war movie.

Tuesday morning:

Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire - 8/10 (A-) --- Very surprising! Not quite as great as the third though. I thought it might suck like the second, but it was great!

Tuesday night:

A History of Violence - 7/10 (B-) --- Yep, you can chalk me up as another person who found it great until towards the ending. The last twenty minutes it really goes downhill. I didn't mind the very ending so much, but the stuff before it was really disappointing and frankly, kind of dull. It's a shame it didn't stay great.

Wednesday:

Dear Frankie - 8/10 (B+) --- A really good movie. I liked the cast. Gerard Butler was charming and I liked Emily Mortimer and the girl who played Marie as well (I think that was her name; the one who played Lizzie's new friend). I was disappointed with the very ending though because I was hoping Gerard Butler would be back in the movie.

Thursday:

Boys Life 5 - 7/10 ( B )

Friday:

The Piano Teacher - 7/10 (B-)

Tonight:

THE PRIZE WINNER OF DEFIANCE, OHIO - 7/10 ( B )

A really solid film! Julianne Moore was very good as usual. The woman she played was quite amazing in managing to keep things together while dealing with hardship and a drunk for a husband. It's sad though that she's dead now and all of the kids are old. Stuff like that always makes me feel sad because it makes me think about dying someday. But anyway, it was a very enjoyable and charming film and quite underrated. I hope more discover it on DVD.

All the Presidents Men - A+

I haven't seen the film in a couple of years, but it's a great film. The only thing though rewatching it that surprised me, is that the MPAA hasn't reissued another rating on the film. I usually don't care about ratings, especially when it comes to sex and language, but if a film uses the word fuck more than 10 times (I counted 11), it probably deserves an R rating. It still has a PG rating though after all these years. And that saying, if the MPAA is going to be leniant with this film, why not be leniant with more recent films today? Is it just because it's a classic that it can get away with it?

Really liked it. Natalie Portman proves that she is awesome at any role.

HOW TO LOSE YOUR LOVER - 7/10 ( B )

I really liked it, especially because of Jennifer Westfeldt, whom I've adored since Kissing Jessica Stein. She makes the movie better than it otherwise would have been. I liked Paul Schneider in it too. My only real complaint is that I found who the main character ends up with disappointing. Still, I'd recommend it.

Like it even more the 2nd time around. I think this movie is in my top 2 of 2005, I'm just astounded at how good it was.

V FOR VENDETTA - 9/10 (A-)
Absolutely fantastic film. It blew my expections I had for it out of the water and I had some high expectations for this. It's not an over-the-top comic book action movie. It's actually a complex political drama. I'm sure it will have some terrible WOM because it's not something most mainstream people would enjoy but I sure as hell loved it. Second best film of the year so far. Natalie Portman was fantastic in it as well. There were a couple of scenes that almost brought me to tears.

THE SCHOOL OF FLESH - 7/10 ( B )

I really liked Isabelle Huppert in this one. I liked her more than I did in THE PIANO TEACHER, though her performance in that one is probably better, even if I prefer her here. I liked her character too. She was a strong, independent business woman. Isn't Vincent Martinez Olivier's brother? They look somewhat alike. Though I hate Olivier and didn't mind Vincent at all here.

DERAILED - 7/10 (B-)

It would have been a B but it gets "derailed" ;) towards the end and goes into a somewhat unsatisfactory conclusion. I thought the twist was obvious, but it didn't bother me. Still, I find it hard to believe that the cops wouldn't figure things out. I was also annoyed that ****SPOILERS**** his wife doesn't find out he pretty much cheated on her. She had a right to know. ****END SPOILERS**** It was still pretty good though and better than expected, even if it doesn't really have any surprises.

I recently watched The Dying Gaul, which is one of the worst indie films I've seen in a while.

Great cast, absolutely ludicrous plotline.
