Glad you feel that way but as usual you are WRONG.

This was actually a pretty good movie, something that I was not expecting going into it. It's rather funny, and all three women do great jobs, Shirley MacLaine in particular.

We watched this again tonight.
It remains one of the most criminally underrated movies I've ever seen, I'm still attempting to figure out why this didn't catch on much at all, although more people seem to be discovering it on DVD.
Such a lovely film.

Such a lovely film.
people probably assumed that C Diaz' lead might lead on of her past slapstick movies and not a quality romantic comedy ( not sure even how you would classify it > romantic comedy ??? ) or maybe just a coming of age story even though the ladies are older.

Sorry but I have to break up the love train for this movie
I really wanted to like In Her Shoes, I really did. And for the first half hour or so I was enjoying it, but once the sisters separate and we are treated to what feel like eons of time with Cameron Diaz frolicking around a retirement home while Shirley MacLaine doles out sage advice and Toni Collette seducing some boring guy while walking dogs for a living, I was praying to gods I don't believe in for the movie to hurry up and end. After the screenplay finally drags itself out of that bog, we are treated to a wondrous calvalcade of chickflick cliches, complete with death, a wedding, the revelation of a family secret, the girl and the boy getting back together, a heartfelt poem reading and an awkward family reunion! Yippee. I give it a C overall, but for what it's worth I would have given it an A or so if it had ended right after Cameron Diaz is kicked out of her sister's apartment.

Finally saw this, and it's brilliantly directed and acted. Not a false moment in the whole picture. Simply another wonderful movie from the great Curtis Hanson.
Toni Collette and Shirley MacClaine deserved Oscars, I tell ya.

Curtis Hanson doesn't make bad movies and this is further proof. I was even impressed with Cameron Diaz who I usually dislike. MacLaine make a character that could easily become a stereotype feel very real. And Toni Collette continues to be so underrated it's painful. My grade: B+ (because the ending seemed a little too pat).

I was pleasantly suprised.
A nice little movie with a few authentic tear-jerking moments. Diaz's character could have wound up a tired cliche or unforgivingly dislikable, but her performance was pitch-perfect. I think I agree with everyone else about Collette, McClain, the direction, and the screenplay: all were very good.

It's a good movie, though I can't really tell myself it's a great one. It's got it's wonderful moments, and it's heart is definitley in the right place, but at times it failed a bit to captivate me like it did for some of the people here. Maybe if I was a female or senior rather than a 16 year old male, I could've related to and connected to it more.
It's still a very finely made film either way though, with fantastic performances by the 3 female leads. Diaz continues to prove that she is one of the most "misrated" actresses out there, she's not underrated, it's just her celebrity status takes away from the fact that she is a very good actress.
Curtis Hanson has got to be one of the most versatile directors ever. L.A. Confidential, 8 Mile, and In Her Shoes. The guy can cover anything.

The first half hour was a bit annoying to watch with the two leads acting pretty unlikeable, but the movie got much, much better after they separated and started to grow as people. Definitely surprised me how much better the movie got as it progressed. I give it an A-, just outside my 2005 top ten and slightly above The Weather Man.
Btw, the bonus features on the DVD were surprisingly entertaining, including a feature on the "Hamlet" dog and interviews with the real-life senior citizens extras from the retirement home. Give it a rent just for the extras if you've already seen it in theaters.

Surprisingly touching (for me, at least. I wasn't expecting to be affected by the movie).
Really the only problem I had with the movie was the ending, with that corny poetry jam.

Since Dolce actually has a sister (and a twin sister at that), she's pretty much destined to love the film.

The New World Trend:
Quote: Stage 1: dolcevita sees it and loves it. Stage 2: loyalfromlondon sees it and gives it an A or A+. Stage 3: A bunch of followers see it and love it. Stage 4: A bunch of people after that are disappointed. Stage 5: DVD releases, mixed reactions.
If dolce didn't see it, you could be the back-up.
I refuse to see it now.
