Post The real winners of Oscar night: Kong and Geisha
wow... a non-Crash thread

;)

So, Kong and Geisha both won just as many awards as Crash and Brokeback. you can say King Kong won the most awards any movie won and there'd be nothing false about your statement

But, I was actually thinking how close these two were to knabbing Best Picture nods!

I know Memoirs was dead and Kong's chances, around nom's time, were not as great as they were once thought to be, but they both garnered 3 wins which means an aweful lot of people voted for them as #1 choice. Yes, they are tech categories, but after Walk the Line, I'd say these two were waiting to get into the short list!

Okay, this thread is pretty pointless, but I'm so tired of hearing Crash and Brokeback Mountain in the same sentence together! Can you blame me?

Peter Jackson is also a winner. 2002, 2004, and 2006 - a movie of his won THE MOST Oscars.

What's next? 2008?

Other winner of the night:

The geniuses behind "Keira Knightley - Acting While Beautiful"

Heh. Right.

But you know, Geisha was a pretty great movie.

It deserved the stuff it got.

I believe Peter Jackson's movie adaptation of the video game Halo comes out in 2007. So, yes... in 2008 Jackson should win best picture award.

Kong never had a chance for anything more than tech stuff. It was never a consideration when movie after movie came up short. That was just wishful thinking and Oscarwatch.com's wishy washy attempts to push a personal favorite. In the end, reality hit, as KK was seen as exactly what it was, a popcorn flick that was a remake of a classic movie about a giant monkey. Not BP material. Not even close.

Geisha was a train wreck because it was made for the purpose of Oscars. The reviews killed it's chances.

Walk the Line
Cinderella Man
Syriana
Match Point
The Constant Gardener
A History of Violence
The Squid and The Whale
Pride and Prejudice

All of those films had an advantage over Kong and Geisha in the BP race.

I thought he was adapting Lovely Bones first, that is scheduled for 2007.

Either way... Halo will still win the best picture award in 2008. It's inevitable.

A video game movie is due, especially considering that BloodRayne will likely get shafted this year because it came out so early in the year. Halo will be a make-up vote by the Academy.

I wouldn't mind be wrong because I really liked Lovely Bones and I fear Jackson will fuck it up.

Has a film ever won Best Picture without winning at least one of the other major awards (actor, actress, script, direction)?

I can't imagine a film winning Best Picture and nothing other than technical awards. Hmmm. What else did Rocky win?
