This thread is more civil and leading to more discussion then any other Crash thread, so woot.
On a total side, I think you're a good poster, so hi.

I actually feel kind of the same way.
But I don't really care that much, I have as much of a right to love a (Best Picture winning) movie as someone else does to hate it.

The strangest thing about it to me is how much it seems like a movie about the 80s posing as a relevant modern commentary. It didn't feel like modern America at all to me, America has become a more complex country in the last 20 years.

Don't feel stupid about liking Crash. Polls have showed that Crash was favored with the public, and most of my friends were really rooting for it as well. I enjoyed it alot, and I can't say whether BBM deserved it, as I haven't seen it, but they really could have done alot worse (ex. 7 straight years of best actress uglifying, now that would have been irritating...).

What poll? The one with like 1000 people? Heres one from IMDb with over 50,000 where Brokeback totally dominated and it's from a site where Crash has a better rating then BBM http://imdb.com/features/rto/2006/poll/oscarpollresults

We all get dramatic about films, and suggest liking things make you a moron or stupid, etc. Because certain comments by people (I can't remember who, there's so many of them) suggest that Crash is inferior and those who like it enjoy an inferior film. I'm not trying to start anything, it just bothered me. I'm tired, and irritable at the moment, so that might explain my sudden urge to point this out. Ever start making a thread, then stop and realize it's dumb? I probably jumped the guns on this by pressing "Post", but I felt like saying it.
What do you care?? If you liked the movie CRASH, then that's all that should matter.. Don't let people bum you out dude.. Develop my attitude: Don't give a fuc* what people think of you or your opinions.. I will take you under my wing my Son..

I almost always find myself liking movies that others don't. I usually like it better that way. I always feel slightly disappointed when it catches on and everybody loves it. I've never felt dumb or stupid for liking a movie that everyone hates - regardless of the movie - and I love a lot of so-called "bad" movies!
Anyhow, it only makes me feel superior to the other idiots when only I liked a movie. So, Mr. X, I guess I'm saying to let your freak flag fly and be proud of whatever movie you like regardless of what others think. And, to be honest Crash is hardly one to be embarrassed about - Oscar winner, top 100 on IMDB, critically acclaimed, etc...

There are quite a few people I know personally in real life that love the movie Crash, or haven't seen it. So I wouldn't take WOKJ as the all important indicator. Those who dislike the film have tended to be more vocal recently due to it's surge and eventual win of Best Picture at the Oscars. There are certainly a lot of people who love the film, and I respect that, though I enormously disagree.
[Edited out big chunk of reasons why I think Crash is overrated .... it's just not worth it.]
Those who continue to refer to "crash-haters" as "BM lovers" continue to not know what they're talking about, because I for one have not even seen Brokeback, and I did not whatsoever want Crash to win. So stop generalizing.
PEACE, Mike.

Oh, and it should be BM not BBM people. BROKEBACK is ONE WORD.

Yeah, every other person in real life that I know is a Crash supporter. It's mainly just the internet that sees the travesty. Because it really is a travesty. The movie is not deserving. Like Raffiki said, this was the year of Brokeback. It'd won everything previously, and everything else pointed to it being the movie of the year. The fact that it was important, influential, and all that rest, should've just added to it's role as champion. The voters just chickened out at the last moment, obviously not ready to breach the gay border yet, which really bites because it'll take a while now before another film reaches the BM levels. I mean, the movie had every single thing that it could possibly have going for it. Critics calling it a masterpiece, audiences flocking to it amazingly, and every last bit of precurser support, from the individual city awards to the big Globes and SAGs. It is not possible for a movie to have more incoming momentum and acclaim. And it still wasn't enough. The academy chose to award Crash, which standing alone without BM would already be probably the least deserving BP winner of all time anyways. If something with as much impact as Brokeback Mountain couldn't win over some of the weakest competition in Best Picture history, can you imagine how long it'll take for the Academy to award another gay film? First of all, it's in Brokeback's shadow. 2nd of all, if this all-out masterpiece couldn't do it, what can? It's damn impossible to reach the support BBM had this year. I'm not an expert on the subject, but I'm pretty that's among the biggest support a film has gotten...ever. How can you top that? You won't have the influential part, and there'll be more competition. Blech. I predict that it won't happen for a long long time.

I agree with TonyMontana for once.
I loved (I mean serious love, I mean I would die for the show) Buffy/Angel in high school, because everyone I knew hated the show or made fun of the show without even watching five minutes of it. It was never a high rating show, another thing I loved about the show. Infact, I hate people who love Buffy as much as I do, because i think their love is a bullshit excuse to be intellectual. And another instance is the people who have all of a sudden have jumped on the 'DONNIE DARKO is the bestest film' bandwagon over the past year and a bit. These people are called 'tryhards'.
Mr X look at Tony's last paragraph, it's better written than the Bible.

Me too.
However, I like Crash and I am not afraid of admitting it either. I find the reactions of the Crash bashers rather amusing, especially after Crash won the Oscar (*points finger and laughs*). All I know is that I like the movie a lot, I think it is complex, realistic and honest enough and is a more deserving winner than last year's Million Dollar Baby.

Crash is not that bad. It's mediocre and yes, it didn't deserve to win best picture, but neither did Brokeback Mountain and Munich. Actually, none of the movies nominated for best picture were Oscar worthy for me.

Yep, the Crash hate got out of hand a few times. That kind of thing happens a lot at Internet Forums. But you are not stupid for liking a film. Hell, I loved "Deuce Bigalow"...
The first one, of course. The sequel is just for idiots!

You have to remember what kind of person calls another person an idiot for enjoying a film.
Ask yourself what kind of person they must be...

Meh.
They're all right, X, every single person I've ever met, seen, spoken to, stalked, or imagined in real life loves Crash. Sure, I don't really get it, and I honestly think a lot of them were fooled, but whatever, yknow, who cares? You like the film, yippie, I'm sure there are five hundred films we disagree on, and no film is ever gonna have a 100% approval. So I dunno what to tell ya. You like it, so like it, like it.

I loved Crash. Everyone I've talked to outside of this forum liked or loved it as well. I wouldn't feel stupid because about 20 people on a website think differently.

Martin (a.k.a. Samweis Gamdschie) saw the movie when we were in NYC and gave it an A+, said it was one of his new all-time favorites. So really not everyone hates it
I gave it an A- and as of now it's my #6 film of 2005.
