I gave TDR a B-. Great effort, trying to get ot the raw 70s style, but the story was very lacking. Trying to be so "twisted" by making the audiences sympathize with the Rejects is not worth applauding. He wasn't trying to make the audience sympathize with the Rejects. He wanted you to see both of their sides as a family, and make you think about it. If you sympathized with them, great. If not, great. And if he failed making me think about it and only made me wish for the Sheriff to torture them to death? Then you got what you wanted for about ten minutes. 
Still, the fact that you're even talking about sympathizing with the Rejects means you did think about it, even in a negative way.
