well if your comparing them to reeves superman then yeah...but i think the new dark blue wetsuit type costume and heart throbish look of superman (compared more of a straight faced stiff in light blue tights thast was reeves) will be much cooler then you expect. the very first pic released of routh doesnt make look cool, but the ones like him holding theglobe over his head, i think do.granted no costumecan top keatons super ribbed black rubber in terms of coolness, but i dont see people pointing at routh and luaghing the way a lot do at pics of reeves superman nowadays.

Actually, there's only one new shot in the spot. But it's a great one! "Oh bugger." LOL
I don't see SR having any effect on PotC's opening. SR will already be in its second week, and PotC honestly looks a lot more interesting and promising in terms of bringing in a large range of people (kids, teens, adults, seniors; just like the last one). So, especially with the midnight showings, I'm not worried about PotC's opening being affected.

Yeah, that was in the teaser. Can't blame people for missing it, though; the teaser shots go really, *really* fast.

Is it sad that I think those publicity stills could've easily come from the first film? I swear that Keira Knightley image isn't new.

Which ones? The ones from that new poster? If that's what you're referring to, those ARE stills from the first film. That design is a slightly altered version of the cover for Walt Disney Co's 2005 Annual Report which just came out. Someone sent it to CanMag as a possible new poster design, but the proportions were wrong for a poster and us rumrunners were easily able to identify the exact shots used from the film film's photo shoot. But now it seems Disney decided to keep that design and use it for one of their international posters.
I'm guessing that with all the delays in the production of the sequels, they haven't had time to do a photo shoot for DMC, so they had to use publicity shots from the first film for their cover and for the French poster. I doubt that we'll see images from the first film in the US theatrical poster.

I'd like to point out there's no frickin' way Pirates of the Caribbean 2 is going to double the first film's worldwide gross

A spoiler warning would be nice there, sport. And considering the opening of Part 3, I stand by my point that it's exact same twist as Back to the Future Part II featured.

Would they really do that? That would lead to poor BO for the third movie.

I doubt it.
[spoil]Again, look at it like Back to the Future Part II. There, Doc was zapped in the DeLorean and ended up in 1885. Marty, naturally, goes back in time to save him. In Pirates 2, Jack dies. So the beginning of Pirates 3 involves Will and Elisabeth going to the underworld to retrieve him.[/spoil]

That would make sense, since arent they shooting the movies back to back? They'll just be continuning the story.

Exactly.
Now there *is* a bit of a different 'tween BTTF Part II and PotC 2.
[spoil]Doc is just presumed dead. Jack actually DOES die and we even get to see him in purgatory.[/spoil]
This is actually going to be a great cliffhanger that will definitely bring people in to see how things are resolved. And there's a surprise at the very end (at least a surprise for non-spoilerhounds) that will definitely get people wanting to see what happens next.
And from what I've heard about PotC3, there's gonna be tons in there that will definitely put people into the seats, and maybe even bring in people who hadn't seen the first two movies.

I'd much rather 2 and 3 be contained stories than be tied together by a poxy cliffhanger.

its a lot like back to the future 2. theyll know hes obviously not gone but its till f'd up.
magnus its not that this wont be a good movie, its that people will just be like "wtf" and it wont have that good of a multiplier if their dissapointed. sorrybout the spoiler, dont know how to do that spoiler warning thing.
im sure this will be a good movie n obviously they dont want to copy the original cause then this would be unoriginal, but making it darker might make it a better film, but it somewhat limits the appeal.
i mean i can hear it now
:hey i saw pirates 2"
"any good"
"it was sick but then jack sparrow BLANK
"Oh man thats gay as hell"
"i know!"
thats probably how many conversations will go. big opening, shitty legs. big but not as big opening for 3 with better legs

Contained stories can be good, yes, but the actual overall plan is that all three movies together will make a three-part arc. Little (and big) things from the first film will be showing up again, many of them with larger roles or at least more importance.
And just wait 'til you get a load of Norrington in the sequels. Wheeeee!
Dead Man's Chest is gonna blow its "competition" (in quotes 'cause SR and DVC and MI3 really aren't close to being competitors) out of the water. Get ready for the reign of Binky the Blacksmith and Jack the Cannibal Chief.
