The Friday is very weak. Unfortunately, this could drop 500 theaters in the next 2 weeks if it keeps dropping like this. But even if it is the Oscar frontrunner, if it isn't making money, it wont be showing for long in a lot of theaters if its making money at these levels. The cast and crew really need to pick up the PR for this film, as does the studio. I think they got a bit lazy after all the talk that this would be the frontrunner, and slowed it down. There's a chance that Capote could be outgrossing it in a few weeks, if this pace keeps up.

I'm sorry, but I've addressed this issue for a number of weeks. I'm thinking about the situation in which theaters are thinking. It hasn't just started to level off now, because the past month was indicative of this type of situation. I even suggested ways that they could stop the dropoff. The PR is a major problem. The problem is fanboys/fangirls let their bias affect their critical analysis. I have stated that I thought this would do $100 m, but the PR is a problem right now even if you don't want to admit it. They've slowed it down because they think its in the bag (ie the win).

I think they had to tone down the PR because they were running the risk of having a backlash...
Everyone in the media has been calling it the front-runner to the point where it is almost ridiculas... quieting down until Oscar night, and an almost inevitable best picture win seems like a good idea to me, and hopefully they can make a best picture win into a $100 million gross...

I'm hoping they stay quieted down too. It *was* getting a little out of hand, and I feared the general public was going to start thinking they were 'pushing propaganda' and there would be a backlash.

From Showbizdata:
GUERILLA ADS FOR BROKEBACK? Tuesday, February 14 2006
Today's Daily Variety compared some of the weekend Oscar campaigning for Brokeback Mountain with the advertising for student council elections and lost-pet ads, as it took note of a poster for the movie that went up on a street lamp post in front of the Screen Actors Guild in Los Angeles. Focus Features, which distributed the movie, told the trade paper that it was not responsible for putting the flier there, suggesting it might have been the work of "some rabid fans ... repurposing [the ad] guerilla-style."
What a BEAUTIFUL fucking FYC ad! I'd kill for this!

Does anyone know where I can view the BM FYC ads besides Oscar Watch? I want to print off some of of them and frame them but a couple of the ones at Oscar Watch aren't scanned the best so if I could find them somewhere else it would be nice.
Thanks for any help in advance.

I don't know where you'd find them online, but among the best source for FYC ads, and from which Oscarwatch gets most of theirs, is The Hollywood Reporter. Grab a daily issue or something and there should be one or two at least. Collect a few of them, and you should have more than a handful.
Although... the time has probably passed when they had the most ads per issue.

Variety sometimes has the FYC ads too. The bigger bookstores (Borders and B&N) might have it. It's expensive --like $6 per issue, but it's on big glossy paper.

Willie Nelson has released a gay cowboy song: http://articles.news.aol.com/special3/article.adp?id=20060214225209990006&ncid=AOLMOV00150000000008
Cool! I want to try and download that song. Hopefully it will eventually be played on the radio.

It should be at ANY newstand. They're released daily as well as weekly editions. But I've never seen weekly editions on stands before.
Ya, Variety has em too. All those semi-entertainment newspaper-looking things should be filled with FYC ads. And Variety is bigger and glossier, yes.

I'm going to get a new ink cartridge for my printer so I can print them out on glossy photo paper and then get frames and frame them. My ink cartridge now still has ink in it, quite a bit, but I printed one out the other night and it's just not as rich with color as it should be. So I'm going to take them out for a bit and put new ones in, then I'll put the old ones back in once I finish printing them and I'll put the new ones back in once this one runs out.
Anyway, I downloaded Willie's song off SoulSeek and listened to it. I really liked it. It was fun. It doesn't sound like Willie Nelson at all though. It doesn't sound like a country song either. It's a cute, catchy song. I wish they would play it on the radio.

DavisDVD.com is showing Brokeback Mountain's DVD release as April 4.
Still not confirmed, though.

I think you should look for issues of Variety or Hollywood Reporter before you try to print. They will have better print quality and will probably be much cheaper than using glossy paper and expensive color ink.
Maybe it would be much easier to just order posters off the web. All Posters.com has three.

Even if I could find Variety somewhere these issues with the FYC ads for it wouldn't still be available. I doubt they keep old ones on the shelf. And I don't think All Posters has the FYC ads either. I did a search there and those didn't come up. So this is pretty much my only option.
Anyway, no wonder it didn't sound like country or Willie Nelson. It's because it was a different version of the song by someone else. I downloaded Willie's version last night and listened to it and I liked that as well. Last night my mom told me that they played the Willie Nelson "gay cowboy song" on the radio yesterday, which I thought was really cool.

Wednesday's Variety had two huge BBM FYC ads. I'm sure you can find one in every issue.

The Best Supporting Actor category seems to be getting more competitive as of late. By the time the ceremony roles around, the pundits may have Gyllenhaal in a genuine three-way race with Giamatti and Clooney.

I already had Gyllenhaal as a spoiler (instead of Michelle) before the BAFTAs, and I'm sticking with that feeling, obviously..
It's scary to see the similarities between Gyllenhaal and Binoche (in The English Patient)... both have the NBR and BAFTA win so far, both lost the Globe and the SAG, both come from movies with 3 acting nominations that got shutout at SAGs, ...
