Seriously, with Big Momma's House 2 and WASC making $20+ million opening weekend, this one will easily top $35 million.

Just saw a new tv spot for it on ESPN, ya know the Hostel spots where they were saying how at an early screening of Hostel someone had a heat attack ( or whatever ) well the new Date Movie spot spoofs that Hostel spot, funny stuff.

I think it's flawed to say that because two movies did well that any piece of crap can be a hit. It might do well, but those two didn't earn their weekends by chance.

I see a $14-15M 3-Day, honestly. I love Alyson Hannigan and want to see this, sort of (if only because of the romcom spoofs), but it seems far more like Not Another Teen Movie than Scary Movie.

If tracking is right, there is so much material and classic quotes to use from page 3 alone

I'm really happy with the tracking. It seems I was trying too hard earlier not to be biased because of my dislike of the trailer.

Eh, I think this guy from Chud's message board made a really good point about Date Movie and spoofs similar to it.

Quote:
Parody is the easiest thing in the world to do badly. This movie, and the Scary Movie "franchise" is a perfect example. Look at the "references" in here. They're not even jokes. You've got a guy that looks like Owen Wilson saying something about crashing a wedding. That's not a joke. That's just them saying, "Hey, there was a movie with Owen Wilson in it called Wedding Crashers." Where's the humor in that? Same with the Napoleon Dynamite reference. Not a joke. It's just a guy that looks like that other guy. Acting like a character from another movie.

Airplane! wasn't funny because it referenced the disaster genre. It was funny because it took every stupid cliche about the genre and made an honest-to-god joke about it. Same with most of Mel Brooks' parody films. Even the lesser ones.

Crap like this is just telling the audience "Hey, remember this movie? So do we!". It's the absolute dumbest form of comedy imaginable.

Thats pretty much exactly how I feel about Date Movie from the footage i've seen of it.

Yes! Exactly how I feel. That's why Blazing Saddles is still good today. Even the direct references are still funny. "Randolph Scott!" I didn't even know he was a real person until later, yet I laughed.

I would like to also point out that while Naked Gun does spoof movies, they took it to a minimal and had a plot going on in the film. It also didnt rely solely on parody for laughs. I liked how Naked Gun took jabs at MLB and also parodied politics too, not to mention great one liners too. Date Movie from the commercials relies soley on movie parodies

Yeah, I was watching Gilmore Girls with my family, and they showed an ad for it, and my dad (After laughing at a couple jokes) noted that it was all spoofs (Hitch, Wedding Planner, Napoleon Dynimite).

Just wanted to note that this film is on the Yahoo! Buzz Chart a week in advance.

But, go ahead and knock those predictions down to below $20M. It'll make mine look better in a week.

Also if you are going by those projection by using yahoo buzz then it should be appearing on moviefone by now or early tommorrow especially when you expect it to make high 20s. And of course its the norm for movies to appear on moviefone if they are making high teens to appear there depending on the genre

There's already been a great low comedy covering much of the same ground - Not Another Teen Movie - a hilarious spoof of many, many films in the genre.

However, the marketing for this one seems stronger, and it also stars the recognizable Alyson Hannigan (though, Not Another Teen Movie's Chyler Leigh was adorable and hilarious!)
