if

The New World
A History of Violence
The Constant Gardener
King Kong

had been nominated instead of Crash, I would be mildly happy this morning.

At least we don't have a Crash/Walk the Line combo in Best Picture.

Kind of shocked about Walk the Line, but in a good way.

The Best Director and Best Picture categories match 5/5 this year. Wow.

I love the Walk the Line snub, really shakes things up.

Judi Dench AND Keira Knightley for Best Actress! lol.

Sweet choices for Best Animated Film too! No Chicken Little or Madagascar.

PEACE, Mike.

The other nominations take quite a while this year. Usually they're up the minute the biggies are announced

The exclusion of The New World and Grizzly Man renders the Oscars pointless. But I'm excited for Munich.

Oh wow I love these semi-surprise nominations for the most part.

William Hurt in Supporting Actor! Walk the Line not in Best Picture! Howl's Moving Castle in Best Animated! and most importantly Keira in Best Actress!!

Love Terrence Howard getting in as well.

but then there's Frances McDormand knocking out Maria Bello :( and ugh with Judi Dench getting a nom it surprises me to think they snubbed her in The Chronicles of Riddick.

I am really sad about Bello's snub, but delighted about AHOV and Match Point getting screenplay noms. Only if Kiss Kiss Bang Bang made it...

----

I'm not surprised that Walk the Line was shut out of Best Picture. After all, that's why the Globes put WTL in the Musical catagory -- so that WTL wouldn't feel bad getting shut out of the Oscars.

For me, the big surprise was Jake Gyllenhaal. I wasn't expecting a nom for him. It shows some BBM love. Are the tech noms up yet?

Jeez, I really don't like the Animated catagory. When something as weak as Corpse Bride merits a nod, you know that the catagory shouldn't exist. :disgust: Let the Animateds play with the big boys, like Beauty and the Beast did. And they really should have a Best Trailer Award.

By the way, the best indicator of Best Picture at the Oscars (the DGA) ended up matching 100% again for the fourth year in a row. All the films nominated were also nominated there.

PEACE, Mike.
