It is a shame that Werner Herzog wins each and every documentary award and those 15 people panel from the academy who preview documentarys didn't allow the movie to be nominated. One of the biggest travesties in Oscar history

I agree wholeheartedly. Easily in the top 5 fuckups in modern Oscar history.

IMO, it would be nice if the thread title said Ang Lee wins.

from the above article > will Lee get Oscar support this time.

The DGA Award winner and the Oscar winner for director have matched in 51 of the last 57 years, including last year, when Clint Eastwood won both trophies for "Million Dollar Baby."

Lee was one of the exceptions, winning the DGA Award in 2001 for "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," but losing on Oscar night to Steven Soderbergh for "Traffic."

Loyal, andaroo, (and everyone who loved Grizzly - including me) will have a heart attack if Grizzly Man got nominated for Best Picture to makeup for that oversight.

If Grizzly Man is nominated, to celebrate, I'll give 100 posters of my chosing copies of the DVD.

bump if someone wants to explain this to me???

- was it anything anti for Lee or just extra support for Soderbergh

and also, as I am not sure the votors for both of these award categories > is this something that makes sense at all??? - considering the 51 /57 past votes.

- or could it just have been a very close vote that both could have went either way???

There was apparently a huge campaign to vote for Soderbergh's work for Traffic instead of Erin Brockovich.

Well Soderbergh... when you are nominated twice in the Director category and you have two nominated Best Pictures, that makes you a big contendor obviously.

Let me just say Lee isn't a great director.

He's a good director but moreso he's a director for hire and that's a trait I don't care for.

BTW: Is it possible that Oscar voters put Grizzly Man into the documentary section as a write-in? It could be some kind of protest note against this ridiculous evalution process? Or would their whole ballot be invalid because of that

Lee, just in case anyone had any doubts, is definently winning the Oscar.

I believe they stopped allowing write-in nominees in the 30's or 40's or something.

But if there is a huge protest, that would be interesting.

Then again, the documentary branch rarely gets anything right anyway.

I need to check on that. That would make my year.
