Born on the Fourth of July swept and lost the Oscar.

Ha me too! She looked very uncomfortable,it must be hard to be around your former colleagues and the people who decided they didn't need you in the show anymore. Too bad Ian Somerhalder wasn't there to console her.
As for the movie awards, the Supporting categories just got a lot more interesting. I still see Supporting Actor as being between Clooney & Giamatti, but Supporting Actress is turning into a free-for-all; if Keener can snag the SAG then it'll really be crazy.

That brunnette (Kristian or something like that is her name) on E! is a really good looking woman. I've always thought that, and I love her voice.

Entertaining night, overall. Liked the wins for Steve Carrell and Mary-Louise Parker. (Even though I still say the supporting players on The Office are better than Carrell. Still.) And an interesting win for Rachel Weisz.
So what's with Walk the Line now? Guaranteed nom?

Brokeback will win, if only for the simple fact that nothing else can win. Other than Good Night and Good Luck, all other films are so dispersed among awards. The difference between Guilds and Globes just go to show that. Brokeback is winning Best Picture at all of the major awards ceremonies, and I bet you it will also win the PGA.
There's just nothing else out there. If anything else won, it would come out of nowhere. Good Night and Good Luck is the only film that has maintained itself along Brokeback in terms of always being nominated for the biggies, but Brokeback has ended up being fairly consistent in beating GNAGL out.
PEACE, Mike.

Guaranteed, as it has been since it debuted in Toronto.

Well, I know I'm jumping in late, but being on a bus, this is the first I've heard of the winners. Biggest surprises were supporting acting wins, and Weisz may not be out of the running yet. Brokeback, Lee, Hoffman are set, with Witherspoon's only challenge being Huffman, and Huffman having no chance unless Transamerica puts on hundreds of theatres asap.
Supporting still open.
I can't believe Paradise Now got best import. *bangs head against brick wall*

Yeah, Born did, but it's even rare to sweep the big 3 at GG and go on to lose Oscar. Besides AB and Schindler's List, you have Dance with the Wolf, which also went on to sweep Oscar. Then it's The Last Emperor and Amadeus. That's it for the last 25 years. Either way, I think Brokeback has more in common with Beauty and List than with Fourth of July.
Just saw Huffman's speech. Very classy one, and if the studio knows anything, they should start pushing her hard now. She is the clear No. 2 candidate behind Reese at this point.

Eh, well whatever. Nothing surprising really. Hoffman was probably the biggest surprise, this guy has been so great in all the supporting roles he's had throughout his career now he finally gets a leading role in a movie and what do you know, he gets a GG award for it. Congrats to Rachel Weisz aswell, very deserving.
Oh and how can I forget the Desperate crew getting served and all losing to a girl from Weeds. Funny stuff.
Just bring on the Oscars.

The Globes are ridiculous, especially in the TV section. Always one year behind with the trend. And why are they putting out nominations at all? You just have to look at the Nielsen ratings. Pathetic.

Best post fo the day...
...granted I've barely been on today
But ya... I'm overall happy with the wins except Walk the Line. I knew it was going to win its 3 awards, but ugh. IT'S SO FREAKIN ANNOYING!!!! Maybe I'm more mad that there weren't really any other performances or movies to challenge it in its category, even though Walk the Line i neither a comedy nro a a musical
I'm even fine with Reese and Pheonix, though a Jeff Daniels win would have been sweet.
But Squid/Whale was so much better.
And The Producers fit the bill moreso than any other movie. I hadn't laughed harder all year at the movies (well, actually Rent is a pretty distinct exception) and it was the only musical in the bunch. But, still, I know... like it had a chance
The main reason why I'm so angry is that I had just about ruled out WTL as a nod and this (even though I knew all 3 wins were coming) just brings me back to square 1. Well, 14 more days till nods!!

Raffiki, that's because you're projecting your opinion. Just completely disregard how you feel and think like the academy. Trust me, it'll relieve the frustration and it'll get you much closer than going by your own opinion. The academy doesn't take any of our opinions into consideration.

I'm not taking my opinion into consideration at all.
I never had Capote as even a contender until very recently and have always kept WTL in my top 5 until now.
Walk the Line is so OBVIOUSLY the best choice or best fit for the last slot (or whichever slot for whoever is debating) but this year has shown that precedence is out the window. Will Oscar follow? Capote has gained much mroe buzz and in the most critical time for voters. That's why it's so hard.
Why is your explanation for everything that people are projecting their own opinions?
The only film that I come closest to "projecting my own opinions on" is Munich. and oddly enough, it's because I can't see the AMPAS passing up this film.

Because there is absolutely no logic in you continously trying to deny that Walk the Line is a lock for Best Picture. It's been shown to have plenty of support. It's a very safe and academy friendly pick.
Actually, I don't know what you picked for the GG, but it didn't escape my attention that some who are down on WTL or up on Pride and Prejudice let their predictions reflect that. I'm in the process of adding up the predictions. I wish more people would step up and make predictions. Who cares if you're wrong, really?

Well, I don't think I ever made clear cut and posted predictions for the Globes. So sorry you didn't have that to compare.
But I distinctly remember posting a while back that WTL's 3 wins were assured. I never doubted its chances in any of the 3 categories in which it won.
Hehe, but I would never deny that I was wrong. I didn't expect Clooney or Weisz to win, though in retrospect I really should have seen it coming for both. I thought Memoirs was the front-runner for Score but I had a gut feeling Brokeback would win that and it didn't. Huffman and Hoffman were expected by everyone Screenplay and director/Picture were no brainers. I was surprised by Paradise Now. I actually thought KFH would win and why wasn't Cache nominated?
And why did the last clip shown for the respective movie categories the winner?
I'm trying to remember if it was like that last year, because they didn't go in alphabetical order as far as I'm concerned.
And on the WTL comments... Capote has more support than Walk the Line in just about every comparable field.

Talk about boring. Every single nominee was dead obvious besides the supporting actors, and even then George Clooney was the slight frontrunner.

I knoow, and the worst part was then all of a sudden I was thinking maybe the show would follow suit and have something shocking happen like Maria Bello win Best Actress Drama. (Although I would say that I think Felicity Huffman's win has a lot to do with Desperate Housewives)

Hehe. Ya, I thought that too. I thought that I should have seen the Weisz win coming since they gave alot of support to Constant Gardener and it didn't seem to have any chance in the other categories.
So, I thought maybe Maria Bello could win because they gave quite some support to Violence too, without it having any real chance in any of its categories.
But, Huffman lost for TV Actress, so I doubt they would have nominated her for two and had her walk away with nothing.

Hehe it was kinda like give it to the underdog because they're the underdog more then anything. The Globes kinda dug themselves into a hole with that one.

That is interesting that they classify WALK THE LINE as a Comedy considering there really wasn't anything funny about it.. A Musical??? In the traditional sense, I'd say No to this, but more of a Biopic..
