I like them. They're fun categories for films we won't see in other categories. I mean, personally, I don't want to see a bunch of drama films make the entire list. I'd love for a movie like Wedding Crashers for Best Picture, but it won't happen.

I don't know about horror and sequel (don't care for them but would'nt really care if they stayed either. was before sunset nominated last year. might change my view on it )
but i do like the comedy category.

Well, "sequel" isn't even a genre, so I see no purpose for it what so ever.

Just a thought, but could Best Overlooked Film perhaps be something voted for in the final voting round for winners, rather than going through a nomination stage, once we know what was actually overlooked in the nomination process?

I put a link to the awards on the award section since not everyone goes to the water cooler!

Um, so do we get best drama too? Because - quite frankly, movies like Wedding Crashers and House of Wax could steal a slot for BP. (No offense, but guys like Zing outnumber ladies like dolce, which is fine, but that sort of gives them the edge, considering they tend to favor horror/sequel/comedy and not dramatic pieces.)
If we keep the others, add action while you're at it. It takes skill to pull off a great action film, imo.

I think you should keep the awards exactly how they were last year (I had fun last year) but implement this ranking system (which is how the Academy does it anyway, right?) you're speaking of, which would help popular but less-seen nominees like Amy Adams get notice here.

Well, I mean, it could have happened last year as well, but we had a solid lineup for Best Picture.
Best Picture
The Aviator
Collateral
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Kill Bill Volumn 2
Million Dollar Baby

Yeah, that's pretty solid - but no Bad Education
Fine, either keep it the same, or branch cats out for EVERY major genre.

I think I'd get rid of Best Editing and Best Sound.
We're going to see BD-repeats for Editing and BVisualEffect-repeats for Sound. Even if, technically speaking, they are different categories...
I also wonder if Makeup's really needed when we have Costume Design and Art Direction. I mean, these ballots, with all of those categories, take forever. We want the most ballots possible, so is it really necessary if we have existing, more general categories that can award makeup work themselves?
Just a thought, I'm sure Lecter will throw these down and insist we have them.

Agreed.
Whichever films are "overlooked" in the nomination round can be voted for in the Winners round. It's totally open, so anything can be nominated, technically, and the one with the highest number of votes wins. I like it.

We can lump Art Direction, Cinematography, Costume, and Makeup as Best Visual Design?
While Sound, Editing, Visual Effects can be Technical Design?
No?
Heh, I tried.

I don't think this year would be the best year to start including it. I can only think of two - Dakota Fanning and that guy from The Ring 2.
Why bother making people think of young actors/actresses if we all know Dakota will win anyways? Waste of time, if you ask me.
I assume you're thinking under 18, right?

There's only a couple people on these boards, I think, who know the difference between those categories. The rest just copy/paste the same nominees for all four (for the most part, unless cinematography or costume design or makeup sticks out in one movie, like it did in Sin City, which I expect will be nominated for Cinematography and Art Direction but not Costume Design and Makeup...).
So while I'm, at heart, against substituting one category for four, it's probably a good move if the people who know what to fill in for the ar-ier categories (Dkmuto, makeshift, dolcevita) agree...

Editing and Visual Effects are quite different. I can see the logic behind grouping Sound and Visual Effects together since most special-effect driven films are loud. Sound individually can give a film like Walk the Line and Memoirs a chance, but Soundtrack and Scores kind of takes care of that.
So I support grouping Sound and Visual Effects together.
I'd leave Cinematography as its own category. That's more about scenary and more on the grand/epic side, while Costume and Makeup is more about cloths and more on the personal side. I'd group Art Direction and Costume together, and leave Makeup as its own since that gives horror movies more of a chance. It should also prevent what happened to Collateral last year, which should have won Cinematography instead of Art Direction. Putting Costume along side with Art Direction will stress the difference between them and Cinematography.

Oh well for mine, I was thinking of under 18, with people like Hilgmore, kids from narnia and potter also.
Another idea I had was best on screen couple, but would that be to much like ensamble?

We could have "Most Promising Talent."
I wouldn't add screen couple. That, along with things like best kiss or best fight, is too much on the People's Choice or MTV award side.

Other cats I was thinking of but I don't think they probably be good were best poster, best trailer, and best title.

Okay we are not even honoring the actual movie's contents or merits anymore if we add those. We have enough "fun" categories already.
