Let's try to keep 2005 movies off the 2006 lists. I know a lot of you are from afar, and don't get certain movies in theatres for a while after North America, but that doesn't mean they're classified as 2006 movies. I saw "It's a Wonderful Life" last week, I wouldn't place that on my Best of 2005 list. I'd be 60 years too late.

Nice, you already saw it? Was it a completed version? If so, do you remember how long it was? Any chance you could give it a quick review.

I saw it on the Ebert & Roeper film festival at sea back in October. From the looks of it, it seemed like a completed cut. It ran about 90 minutes. I'll see it again in March to see if there are any differences.

As for the review, since it was back in October, I don't remember very much about the film so I couldn't really write an extended review. However, here are a couple of quick things.

First off, the film is very funny.

Second, Aaron Eckhart is very good in the film. He does a good job of making his character convince us, that promoting for the tobacco industry is a good thing. Even though we aren't supposed to side with him, he puts up a good case for smoking. For instance he tells a group of schoolchildren, that their parents really don't know what they are talking about, when they tell them that it's not good for them to smoke. The parents are afterall not doctors, so how could they possibly know what they are talking about. There is also a very funny sequence where he is on a talk show with a teenage cancer patient. He is at first turned out to be the bad guy in representing cigarettes, but he turns the crowd and even the patient on his side.

Third, the film has a great cast, as you could see from the trailer. My only complaint is that Robert Duvall and Rob Lowe weren't in the film very much. They basically had extended cameos. Katie Holmes is also very good, along with Maria Bello and David Koechner. The standout though besides Eckhart, is the kid who plays his son. I forget his name, but he is very good.

Fourth, (This isn't really important, but it stood out) the credit sequence is one of the most inventive credit sequences I have ever seen.

I wish I wrote a review at the time I saw it, because I don't really remember much more than that.

I am so freaking excited to see this movie. When My father, older sister and I went to see munich, we saw the trailer for this. We were all on the floor with such side-stitch from laughing so hard. Looked wonderful! Glad you liked it.

I always give the first movie I see in a year a bad review.

Mat, do you really think I was going in expecting anything but a so-bad-it's-good type of movie? After seeing House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark I really wanted to see this just to see if Uwe Boll could do it again. Here's the good news: He did. Here's the bad news: Not only is Bloodrayne just as awful as House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark, but it's also less fun. Don't get me wrong, it had a number of scenes that were deliciously awful, such as Meatloaf's random appearance, but the movie was so incompetently directed that it became almost incoherent. If there is any one thing I could say, it's that the acting is so bad that it really becomes amusing. Ben Kingsley looks like he's in a state of physical pain, and Michael Madsen just looks fucking wasted in every scene. *slight spoiler* At first, I thought it was funny how bored he looked when he killed a few people in swordfights, but it only became clear that he wasn't acting and was just hungover the whole time when after he got stabbed in the stomach he still was just as bored and emotionless as in any other scene.

I think the reason why Michael Madsen is good in other films is he plays the "drunk and bored character".
