I'm not biased, Shack. I'm very objective, so don't project your attitudes on me, because we've all seen your bias burn your ass many times. We've even witnessed your obsession with disagreeing with me burn you several times now.
Congratulations, though, as I'm going to take andaroo's cue and take a break from this place because of you.

How can you not get more biased than what you've been in this thread? "Walk the Line is the #1 frontrunner!" coming from you is as biased as can be. And thats just this thread, I think we can all account for your posts everywhere else being just the same.

Uh, dude, WALK THE LINE IS the #1 Frontrunner for BEST PICTURE and the fact that it is neck and neck with Potter on a daily basis proves this and if it weren't for Potter even being out, WALK THE LINE would be at #1 on the chart.. It is critically well received..

I'm just saying that theoretically it's chances aren't nil... yet.
Since the reaction of a couple films is up in the air.
If Munich is brilliant then sure, if Geisha is powerful then okay. Brokeback vs. Walk the Line would be tougher, as would any other candidate.

Well, it's very easy to find out how old someone is. Just click on their name!
And the post he made got deleted minutes after it was posted. I edited mine too because I'm just moving on. There's no need to talk about this anymore.

I liked reading this thead because I get a sense of the history here at KJ. I only skimmed the thread, but it appears that you can't really count your chickens until they hatch, eh? At the time of the argument, WTL was the frontrunner for BP, but no longer. At this point, I would call it a lock for a nom simply because it is the most Oscar-bait of the "mainstream" movies. It was nominated so that nobody could complain that "it was all indies this year."
But I don't think it will get Best Pic. The competition is just too strrong. Any advantage it might have had -- small film, good acting, critical love, quirky, "poltical pressure," indie feel -- is shared by the rest of the slate.

You're delusional if you think Walk the Line even has a shot at this point.

Well, yeah, that's what things are heading towards right now.
Unless Huffman can somehow upset.

I was emphasizing more that it would win one Oscar more than Witherspoon would win, which seems to be a foregone conclusion already.

Witherspoon's foregone win is in doubt now. Felicity Huffman is her closest competition and if Huffman wins the GG in Drama I will say it's a Dead heat.
Walk the Line is not going to win Best pic at this point. I think it's clear BBM is the frontrunner in that category especially with Ang Lee winning every award in sight.
Actor is a toss up between Heath Ledger and Hoffman at this point.
Best supporting Actor/Actress both seem wide open. Giamatti appears to be the one most likely in the men's and I'm not sure who to go with in women's.

I agree that in this race nothing is a foregone conclusion

Reese should be the only big win. Huffman is probably great, but that movie isn't hot stuff at the box office. Let's face it- Transamerica has accumulated in these week about as much money as it costs for an advert on Desperate Housewives. Like it or not, we know box office really does count.

I have no idea what Transamerica's theatre problem is. They have had it playing in one single theatre in all of LA since its December 2 release!!! And it's in North Hollywood... the indie movie central is Santa Monica/West LA.
I SERIOUSLY think the lack of theatres will hurt any chance Huffman will have of winning if they don't act fast.
Anyway... ya, Walk the Line seems to have Reese Witherspoon pretty locked up for the win. And that's it!!

Has TA even amassed a million yet? I mean, it's numbers are pathetic and quite frankly threaten it's chances. Huffman is popular right now and this movie could definately be rolling in cash right now. Big time. Movies like TA, so different and regarded somewhat highly only for a single performance AND makes pennies at the box office, hardly stand a serious threat at Oscar.
Again, unfortunately.
And North Hollywood? Isn't it sort of a crummy area?

If BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN wins BEST PICTURE, it's because it's being Politically Correct in doing so by pushing the whole Butt Pirate, Homosexual Scene and would give the Academy Kudo's from the Gay Community in giving it a BEST PICTURE Win and that in iteslf is a travesty if it does....
