 DGA Predictions (Winner announced)
Announced tomorrow. How will it play out?
My predictions:
Ang Lee
George Clooney
James Mangold
Steven Spielberg
David Cronenberg
Alt. Peter Jackson
Bennett Miller could surprise, but I suspect a Best Director nom at the OSCARS is in store for him, not here.
PEACE, Mike.

Ya, I know it's weird. I'm just throwing sme stuff out there.
I think Cronberg could get in, maybe in place of Spielberg or Haggis.
As for Jackson... he got a DGA nom for Two Towers, the one he didn't get an Oscar nom for.
This is a passion project for him... I dunno, I think he has a real good shot!

That would mean 3 of the nominated directors are different than the nominated films (PGA). That seems extremely unlikely. A 1 or 2 difference is the usual (see history); I don't think there has ever been a year with 3 differences, though I'm not totally sure.
PEACE, Mike.

I'm becoming more and more certain that precedent is out the window.

Lee
Clooney
Haggis
Jackson
Meirelles
No Spielberg, putting the nail in Munich's coffin. Meirelles makes it, vaulting Constant Gardener back into a fighting position.

I don't know. I'm going with my gut. This awards season is just so unpredictable.

Since DGA has matched 5/5 with BP in the last 3 years, I'm going to play "safe" (according to my own prediction for BP) and predict:
- Lee
- Clooney
- Spielberg
- Mangold
- Haggis

Haggis
Cronenberg
Spielberg

I originally wanted to go with the same line-up as you, but then I realized it'd only be a 2:5 match with the PGA and that is unlikely.

Someone or two people are not getting a nod tomorrow while their film was nominated here. Bennett Miller's my guess. The PGA and DGA haven't matched 5/5 since 1997, and one of those films didn't even get a Picture nod.

You just brought up an excellent point.
Amistad got Best Picture/Best Director nods at the Globes, it got a PGA nom and a DGA nom and yet missed out on Director/Picture noms at the Oscars.
Munich isn't even close to all that..hmmm.
It could also mean that a movie like Crash is still not secure (even though WGA is helping it quite a bit)
Walk the Line could also be snubbed then. It didn't get WGA, but got Best Picture nom at the Globes and PGA.

Plus, Amistad didn't get a SAG for cast, however Anthony Hopkins did get nominated.
But, if Munich doesn't get a DGA nod tomorrow, it's probably out.

Woody Allen, is my alternate, and Spielberg is the weakest.

I think Munich needs both DGA and SAG Ensemble. Fortunately both will be out tomorrow, so we'll get a better (or worse?) picture very soon.

Regardless of the PGA Munich slap, I can't imagine Spielberg missing out on the DGA.
Clooney
Lee
Spielberg
Mangold
And.....
Haggis, perhaps (If it is, I'll scream)
I'll keep my fingers crossed for Woody Allen or Fernando Meirelles.

I said I'd scream if it was Haggis. If its Ron Howard, I'm likely to collapse is a ball of tears.

I'm thinking:
David Croenenberg
George Clooney
Ang Lee
Peter Jackson
Steven Spielberg
With Paul Haggis and Bennett Miller as the main two alternatives... on that note, if Miller DID get a nomination here, I don't know... I'm still trying to mull over the way BP/BD could work, man it's unpredicatble. Jesus, what a year. I mean, what a year.

These apparently may be the DGA noms, posted by some apparent insider on IMDB:
Woody Allen, Match Point
David Cronenberg, A History of Violence
Peter Jackson, King Kong
Ang Lee, Brokeback Mountain
Steven Spielberg, Munich
Take it with a grain of salt though. Actually, I don't really believe it, but I wanted to post it just for fun. Hehe. Spark discussion. And to compare and see when they are officially announced. If these end up being right, wow.
And before someone mentions the Clooney snub, well, apparently he may not be a member of the DGA? I dunno. But meh. Just ignore this I guess. People have been talking about it over at Oscarwatch, and have basically assumed it's fake, but I posted this anyways.
PEACE, Mike.

Figured, but there's still the possible that he just didn't get nominated.
His absence is basically the only reason I don't believe these apparent insider noms. Otherwise, I'd probably be open to accepting them. But watch it happen, and the official announcement be the same. Heck, the awards have already been so crazy, I wouldn't be totally shocked.
PEACE, Mike.
