It's been quite a hectic week for me (what with moving to a new flat and all) but an update is indeed coming tonight. I haven't even counted the number of lists that will be added, but it's probably between 170 - 220 lists.. or so. So, yeah, I guess you can say it's a massive update. Sorry to keep you waiting, MikeQ. ;)

No problem. It was just me being impatient again. Heh. Hope your move went well!

PEACE, Mike.

Jan 4, 2006 - You can find 200+ new lists in their respective pages. Full update coming at 1 pm PST, or earlier, as the lists and results are still to be double checked. Still, it's safe to say the top 10 will be as follows:

1 – Brokeback Mountain
2 – A History of Violence
3 – Capote
4 - Good Night, and Good Luck.
5 – The Squid and the Whale
6 – King Kong
7 – Crash
8 – Grizzly Man
9 – Munich
10 – The Constant Gardener

Well, looks like Brokeback takes the lead again. I wasn't expecting it to, especially aftre the last updates' strong #1 showing for AHOV. Curious to see hwo close these ranks are because there is alot of shifting and heck it's more than 200 new lists!

King Kong and Crash look like the real winners of the update.

Ya.. I think both are pretty damn close to that 5th slot.

Munich also entered the top 10.

2046 dropped a bit, it seems. From #7 to out of the Top 10.

I think that AHOV might still end up with the most #1 spots, at least on the COTC list.

Brokeback Mountain has way more #1 mentions than AHOV.

2046 sits at #12.

King Kong and Crash are indeed getting closer to the top 5.

Walk The Line is just outside the top 20.

If I bribe you enough, will you take Crash off the list?

Believe me, I would have done it myself if I could.

Nice for King Kong, but also nice for Crash, so their fight is still at a standstill. Maybe both will get in.

Just replace it with Last Days

You know, in the past years, every Best Picture nominee at least made the Top 20, so that's not good for Walk the Line.

Crash is definitely catching on. If it gets a SAG ensemble nod (which it definitely will) and a DGA nod, it's a lock for a BP nom.

I am surprised Downfall is not doing better with the critics. It surely deserves it.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin is surprisingly strong, but it didn't top a single list yet.

A History of Violence is still leading with #1 spots on the COTC list.

Memoirs of a Geisha has 11 top 10's now. Wonder if it's the best a film has ever done with a 31% RT rating.
And this is an interesting list:

Quote:
Marcianne Miller (Asheville Mountain Xpress)

1. Capote
2. Crash
3. Lord of War
4. Ladies in Lavender
5. Brokeback Mountain
6. Off the Map
7. The Constant Gardener
8. Kung Fu Hustle
9. Millions
10. Aeon Flux

http://www.mountainx.com/ae/2006/0104miller.php

Aeon Flux in the same list as Brokeback Mountain, Kung Fu Hustle, Capote, and Crash.

nice update....

I'm not incredibly loving how most of the lists are turning out...just seems so...meh...blah even.

But this list is pretty interesting...
Quote:
PASSION INDEX
R/TITLE/%

01/BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN/23.24
02/2046/20.51
03/A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE/16.36
04/THE NEW WORLD/15.22
05/HUSTLE & FLOW/14.55
06/KINGS & QUEEN/13.73
07/CAPOTE/13.37
08/CRASH/13.24
09/KING KONG/13.01
10/MUNICH/12.93

2046 caught my eye, having dropped offa the top ten...but 16/70 mentions were number one. Which is nice. How much will this one change, I wonder? Seems like with 400+lists in it wouldn't change too much...I'd love to see 2046 stay top 3 here...(all time top (wait, can I do this by year? besides in 2005? i thought so, but maybe not...can't find it) is only 33 percent (lol, "only". :o..) so maybe they will kinda drop off?)

Marcianne Miller: Charlize Theron shines in this spectacular, life-affirming female-power fantasy that was misunderstood and wrongly maligned by many.

Yeah, okay.

I dunno... the list is shaping up to something a little decent. I like it.

Looks like Brokeback is gonna be the winner here too. Look at the Cream of the Crop though... Violence still has alot more #1's!

I just realized that if both Munich and Capote make the final cut, it will be the first time since Engin started tracking the top 10 lists that 5 BP nominees are all among the top 10 most critically-acclaimed films. So far 2002 is the closest with The Pianist finished at No. 11. So that will probably mean not both will make it. ;)

That's right. Capote won't. ;)

With 613 lists (which has got to be close to finished - last year had 618 total) Walk the Line STILL sits outside of the top 20. Didn't someone mention that all films that have received an Oscar nom for Best Picture were in the top 20? However, I guess it could sneak in with a few more lists to still come in, but from this update since the last, Walk the Line didn't move up any. Stayed at #21. Regardless of where it moves, I still expected this to move up higher on the list much sooner.

King Kong slips into the top 5 films.

PEACE, Mike.

Munich is still sticking in there quite tight, which is nice. Capote might pass AHOV soon...blah.

Kinda funny Munich is in a nice batch of COTC top list and has a few 1's but at RT it's average for COTC is rotten.

I was surprised when I saw that too, but then I read all the rotten reviews and found a lot of them to actually be more lenient to positive but were given a negative rating.

If the ones that said rotten but looked fresh were changed to their correct rating, MUNICH would have had a 70-75% COTC.
