Not that I had any doubt, but after seeing the reaction to the trailer today, I don't see how it won't pass $35 million.

Mmm I gotta change my prediction to 25-30 million opening weekend, The Ringer audience laughed at The Benchwarmers trailer just about as much. I think that it may have a bit too small a demographic to really break out.l

I don't really see the demographics being smaller than any teen-oriented comedy (like Adam Sandler flicks and Scary Movie flicks).
Also, the fact that they are parodying two huge hits (Hitch and Wedding Crashers) that are still very fresh in the minds of people is gong to help a lot, IMO.

Yeah, but parodying comedies (seems kind've redundant?) isn't as funny as parodying "tense" thrillers or scary movies.

The again, the latter has been done over and over in the past, at least they go for something rather new. Not Another Teen Movie attempted it as well, but failed as it came across as pretty unfunny and it also had an R-rating which shut it out for all the target audiences.

I don't know, I think that the Scary Movie series had some younger and older appeal actually (I know I was dying to see the first one when I was 11), and the trailer simply doesn't compare in most aspects to Scary Movie 1 or 3's. That and I think women will be a much harder sell then for said SM films.

I think you misread the title. It's called DATE Movie. How could it not have more female appeal?

Exactly! This will have male and female crowds. I mean the movie that is called Date movie will attract date crowds inevitably.

This movie looks hilarious. Hopefully, it is as good as Scary Movie. If the first film is successful could this turn into a franchise ala Scary Movie?

I know what it's called, but the girls I were with certainly weren't pleased after they saw Alyson Hannigan prancing around in a fat suit being humiliated for over a minute straight. And I'd argue that scary movies work just as well as any other sort of date movie.

That is true. Most horror/scary movies have a high female attendance. But Date Movie is spoofing a lot of chick flicks, which has an even bigger female attendance.

As I'm writing the monthly article, I started looking at all the movies released in February, and I'm in this club. Here are my reasonings:
Quote: Four of the last five years, President’s Day weekend had seen its No. 1 film gross over $30 million over the 4-day period: Hitch ($36.7m), 50 First Dates ($45.1m), Daredevil ($45.0m), and Hannibal ($33.5m). Hitch and Hannibal were even on their second weekend. Date Movie is poised to join the group. Inspired by Scary Movie, the film is a spoof of romantic comedies such as Big Fat Greek Wedding, Meet the Parents, and Hitch. With Valentine’s Day three before and no releases from February 10th specifically targeting the date crowd, it should dominate the weekend. The hilarious trailer has gained a lot of traction, and the movie already started popping up on various online buzz charts. his will be the first movie of the year to have a shot at $100 million total.

I give it 25m-30m opening weekend. The reaction and buzz has not been that great from what I can tell.

I xcan't believe you guys think it is going to open that high. This movie looks about as interesting as Here on Earth. The trailer is not effective and there is nothing that will get anyone into the theaters. The commercial doesn't even outline what the film is really about.
TANK job....10/22

Yeah, that's not biased one bit.
I feel a bet is in order.

Biased? How is it biased? You guys are going by the weekend that it is coming out. Is it the only film coming out that weekend? I just think it looks horrible and the trailer is weak. What bet do you want?
