All the studios estimate the numbers even for other studios so we should still get estimates.
WOW Baumer - a 6 month wait for Jaws numbers huh - thats crazy. I think the final Jaws number is still an estimate or atleast was so until a couple of years ago.
Great numbers for Narnia - seems like my original prediction that Narnia would battle Potter for top spot ahead of Kong were correct. Guys it will play very well into January where its only competition will be Hoodwinked.
Dick and Jane should get decent number.
The Ringer will sleeper as ive predicted.
CBTD2 is performing as expected. It will struggle to make $60m total.

Yes, at this time, 30 years later, the JAWS overnights are still an estimate.

Holiday films have it great. Not only do they have holidays everyday from Dec. 25th-Jan. 1st, they also have the additional cushion of the MLK holiday, usually in Christmas releases' 4th week I believe (ideal for HSX!).

I have Kong's estimate in my signature...

They also have Superbowl Sunday which kills the box office.

Yeah, but that is not until February, no? After having gone through the lucrative December period and taking advantage of the dead zone January, the hampering of one day because of the Superbowl is worth it, and again, only one day.
PEACE, Mike.

The superbowl isn't till Feb. 5th, or Narnia's 9th, and Kong's 8th weekends. I don't think they'll be too worried.

I'm sorry, but this is BOGUS and there not on Vacation.. There stunned to living hell at how their movie KONG isn't tearing up the charts like it should be and there embarrassed to come forward to project Thursday's number cause it's that bad, not to mention the fact that Narnia is beating the hell out of KONG whivh was probably unexpected.. Come on!!! Look back for the last 2 or 3 years and you never saw anything like a Studio like Universal or SONY taking a vacation and not posting their numbers for their respective movie's... KONG REALLY is doing that bad and Universal is humiliated over it and I'm my ass off about this..

You can bet that if it had turned around on Thursday and had made $25 million, that they would have somehow managed to keep the office open till noon...

I gotta agree with you on this. I dont recall this ever happening...A billion dollar company is taking a few days off, when their QUARTER OF A BILLION dollar Kong is heading in a downward spiral. OOOoo isnt this the biggest time of year for ticket sales. No No No, you DO NOT take time off right now. Its your bread and butter time of year. Hey things are bad all over with rising prices and low turn out, look at the retail industry,'sales are down'. I dont see Sears or JC Penneys taking some days off...If I were in there shoes these numbers would be the most important thing in the world to me right now as my job may be on the line.

That's like a flower company taking time off during Valentines Day. Or churches taking a vacation during Easter. Nice post BKB. That is about the best point I think i have ever seen you make.

What is this, some massive conspiracy that the Ringnuts and Kong Dongs are blind to?
"Ohh, they are fudging the stats! Ohh, they aren't really on vacation! I have no evidence to back any of this shit up, I just want to see the movie fall flat on its ass!"

The story is pretty thin:
press: "Ok, where are the number, what should we say?"
studio: "Humm, ahh yea, we're gonna be on vacation so, we'll get back to you in a few days on that one......"
press: Now hear this, Now hear this,,studio head are on vacation!
The people: "WTF is this shit they're feeding us!!!!!!"

It's odd, yes, but it won't matter seeing that the numbers are gonna be up within two-three hours.

 Thur. Estimate Update
Kong made $5.58m on Thursday and D & J made $3.92m. Kong had the 5th highest increase in the top 10. I think the studios don't put out numbers sometimes. I don't think it is that hard to understand, they are not here for our pleasure. The numbers will still be there when they get back on Tuesday.
