Lunar New Year is more important to us. You racist bastard, stop stereotyping. Not to sound like a racist/bigot myself, but I think that makes sense. I think Brokeback might also benefit as homosexuals tend to have non-traditional religious and family celebrations (not that is the only demo for this movie but a sizable portion).

Rumor Has It first appeared on moviefone earlier today, I think. It was No. 1 for a while and currently settles at No. 5.

Yeah, and not a great sign for Fun with Dick and Jane. Both have front page ads on moviefone, and DJ opens 4 days ahead of Rumor.

Early:
Cheaper By the Dozen 2: 35.1 (3-day), 40.2 (4-day)
Fun With Dick and Jane: 14.1 (3-day), 16.7 (4-day). (Carrey's first big comedy misstep. It has to happen sometime.)
Rumor Has It: 8.1 (1-day), 14.3 (2-day)
Wolf Creek: 3.1 (1-day), 5.4 (2-day)
The Ringer: 11.1 (3-day), 13.1 (4-day)
Memoirs of a Geisha: 10.2 mil (3-day), 13.1 (4-day)
Munich: 9.9 (3-day), 11.5 (4-day)
The Producers: 7.1 (3-day), 8.5 (4-day)
...
I know absolutely nothing about Christmas box-office. This is gonna be rough.

I have always said that Rumor Has It will be a big hit and will easily beat out The Family Stone and I am glad I stuck with that.
It should open to $6 million on Sunday, at the very least.

This might be a case where early tracking turns out to be close, as unreliable as they are. I remember reel source had it at $20-25M 5-day a few weeks ago. We'll see. The signs so far aren't in favor of it being a hit, but comedies tend to not show up on Internet charts early.

Also, I haven't actually found anyone (except maybe Zingy) who actually plans to see it. Considering I know a lot of people in the target demographic for this, that doesn't seem like a good sign. Even people online seem indifferent.

That damn Téa Leoni pushes me away from wanting to see Dick and Jane. They could have picked a better pairing. I'll see it if my nephew wants to over the holiday, but I'm not bringing it up to him. I also don't have much desire to see Cheaper by the Dozen 2. I like the stars, but haven't even seen the first one yet, and I'm not in a hurry to.
Then again, it's Jim Carrey in a comedy farce, and he's the comedy box office king.

Both Dick and Jane and Cheaper 2 aren't on Moviefone despite opening tomorrow.
Not that this normally means much (especially for a kid flick like Cheaper), but isn't kind of suspect for Dick and Jane?

The original pairing was Cameron Diaz and Jim Carrey. Can you imagine how much better it would have looked? Also, it'd have been their first movie since The Mask!

Things are definitely pointing to a reception much like a Kicking and Screaming type of comedy at the box office.

Cameron Diaz probably could have used it, too, as her box office days look futile when she can't even sustain a quality movie like In Her Shoes. I think it would have been much bigger with her and Carrey reteaming, but with her also being a star this time. Bad career move, Cameron.

I agree. Also, just like Mr. and Mrs. Smith has shown, it's not just that each particular star is necessarily a draw, it is also important that the couple itself has enough chemistry to be a draw and Carrey + Diaz would have been a much bigger draw than Carrey + Leoni, even if Diaz is not a big draw on her own.

Carrey + Aniston probably would've worked wonders for this film too. People liked them tons in Bruce Almighty, and she's riding high on tabloid fame right now. They would've been perfect.

The FWD&J critical drilling has begun. It's already at 38% on RT.
Same goes for Cheaper 2. 14% right now. The first only got around 24% though, so it's not really that worrisome. On a side note, check out one of the reviews so far:
"Cheaper by the Dozen 2 is predictable, manipulative, and probably funded by the Taliban, but that doesn't mean you won't enjoy it." - Joshua Tyler
...Wha?
