That goes back to my comment about the Pre-LOTR feel. The entire film was a bit screwy, not to say it in a bad way. It felt more like Heavenly Creatures or Braindead with an incredible pedigree and unlimited funds than say the LOTR trilogy.
I still think it's one of the best films of the year (and possibly the best depending on what other films you've seen).

There is only one single movie that challenges the title right now for me and that's Batman Begins. I need to re-watch it.
King Kong is certainly the most FUN movie and not only of this year, but probably of the last two years or so.

I've never been so amazed at a film in my life. The visuals are just out of this world.
The best of 2005, and probably one of the best films I've ever seen.

Hehe, I knew our good ol' Zing would love it.
Seriously, though, this movie has more action than all 2005 movies altogether.

Heh, it's just hard for me to want to participate in a thread that's this abused... and can I just say that I find bradley's reviews to be some of the more obnoxious, pretensious pieces of writing I've ever seen? He goes on and on declaring about how in decades people will realize what a cinematic classic Aeon Flux and Into the Blue are (exact words) yet then says that Peter Jackson in an incompetent hack with no possible redeeming features. It's not so much that I have yet to ever agree on a movie with him, but that he makes such stupid, unfounded declarations as if the entire world agreed with him, rather then vica versa. If you're the only person who hates the movies everyone else loves and adores the films people declare to be trash, then be proud of it, don't act like you speak for the general population.

I thought my review was as objective as it gets. I praised what deserved praised but didn't gloss over the flaws.

The beginning was the only part that was slow, after that it almost never slowed down. The first hour could've easily been better if the relationship between Watts and Brody was more fleshed out. Instead it was just more like a school girl crush towards a person she admired.

Im very impressed with the movie. I don't have any problems witht he beginning. It is a bit slow in parts but I enjoy the period it was showing. All the action came fast and furious... . Was anyone else in awe of the spider scene??? The effects were amazing but I almost wanted to turn away a few times. So many bugs

Yeah, seriously, the bugs and spiders and all the other slimy crawling stuff looked disgustingly real (in a good way).

Agreed..he gets off pretty lightly too..
A simply awful poster devoid of any warmth or enthusiasm.

That was one of my main issues. The black crew member and the young crew member were 1) not very interesting characters (pretty one dimensional) and 2) not very good actors.
There was no real purpose to focus on them instead of Watts and Brody, as there wasn't enough time to develope them anyway, and it wouldn't have made the Watts/Brody romance come off so forced if we would have seen more interaction with them. Did I believe he cared enough about her to go off by himself to rescue her knowing what lurked around every corner? No. That relationship didn't work on the level that it could have, and the development was sacrificed in favor of pretty meaningless one dimensional characters who weren't given enough development to care about anyway.

It was pretty cheesy when the black guy was telling the story of how he found the kid.

The special effects for some of the bugs were very good. Too bad he couldn't use those special effects for the Pixar-esque dinosaurs.

I agree. Going in having heard the buzz for Watts' performance I was still skeptical. It is a film essentially about a giant animal after all but Watts was exceptional and the heart of the film. Black was also surprisingly good as Denham. I especially liked how he always made certain to carry a camera with him everywhere he went. The special effects are also unbelievable. It's easy to tell where the astronomical budget went with this film.
Grade - A (One of the best of the year. Period.)
