Crash is the best drama I have seen all year.

lennier wrote: God the movie is silly, it's almost pathetic to think of how contrived and fake the whole set up is... and? And who gives a damn? Crash is a powerhouse of emotions. We check our brains at the door for lame comedies and laugh away, and for Crash, ya sorta check your brain at the door too. There is a sort of unspoken truth about Crash, too- no matter how overblown and ludacris the plot may be. The emotions that drive the film can be overwhelming.... if you aren't andaroo. I cried more during Crash than I have in ages during a film and look past the overblown performances of a few to enjoy the more brilliant moments Haggis creates... lovers of the film know what I'm talking about... Ya know, Crash sorta reminds me of a research paper, maybe on racial tensions. The paper is elegantly crafted, beautifully executed, and damn near flawless. There's just one big exception - a flawed thesis. Crash may be contrived and cliched and all the rest, but if you can look past that and appreciate that the movie does plenty of things the right way, it's an admirable film. And that, you haters, is why I like it. So ... I stick by my grade of B+/A-.
So what, those of us who don;t like Crash our somehow heartless?
It hard ot be emotionall overwhelmed when you predict each scenes before it happens, how can I be overwhelmed when I know that the guy int he store is goign to try and shot the Hispanic locksmith? How can i be emotionally moved when I know Ryan Phillippe is going to shot Tate, who is obviously Cheadle's brother?
You may see it as elegently crafted research paper, I see as a diaster some stuednt wrote the night before a midnight,s ure the printed it on nice paper and the margins are right, but the writing inside is hollow and boring.
Some people can see Crash and felel it works, I sat there the whole time wondering when the silliness would stop.
Give me just about another other film on race relations over Crash.

To be fair, Dr. Lecter has only seen one other drama this year, and it was The Longest Yard.

I haven't seen The Longest Yard
Actually the only other drama I saw is the heartbreaking father-daughter-car relationship drama Herbie: Fully Loaded.

I think this thread may need a bit of a bump after today's nominations.

Hopefully Haggis won't get a DGA nom, and things will still be in the air in terms of Crash's chances. Hehe. PGA often only matches 3/5, so hopefully this year is the same.
PEACE, Mike.

I actually think the race, at the moment, is between Brokeback and Crash, considering Munich seems to be out of it completely.
I don't even want to imagine the bloodshed on these forums if Crash managed to win Best Picture.

I actually agree, specially if Haggis gets a BD nomination. THe DGA tomorrow should be a very good indicator.

Wait a few years. She'll remake it all on her own and play every single character. Then she'll make sure it gets nominated.

If Crash wins, for me, I can safely call that the worst win in Oscar history.
I hope Brokeback Mountain sweeps now.
I have nothing else to cheer for. For the second year in a row, my favourite films have been cut out.
I am being premature though, since the Oscar noms aren't even out yet.
PEACE, Mike.
