Memoirs does have some support in critics circle, it seems. Gong Li almost won, and Ziyi placed third (even though it's a distant third). And NY isn't some crappy academy friendly award.

Interesting...

Some support for Memoirs.
Alot more support for History of Violence than the apparent love. I think Cronberg is filling in that Director niche pretty nicely.

Oops, looks like the first OW post was somewhat incorrect:

Gong Li didn't get the second place, but Keener did.

Zhang Ziyi also has two films listed there. Given the love of 2046, that was enough to push her up to the front.

Yeah, Jeff Wells posted an audio interview today with a member of the NYFCC. He revealed, among other tidbits, but there was a great deal (like, 3rd place-ish) outpouring of support for 2046. They hated MEMIORS like the rest, no doubt.

This defnitely doesn't hurt either one directly but it does hurt them in their consistency.

At this point, Brokeback Mountain, Ang Lee, and Philip Seymour Hoffman have been the most consistent names appearing in all these awards and nods.
