Boo! No big noms for Brokeback and only a top 9 mention. Decent enough, right?
I like seeing Crash up there and especially Terrance Howard.
Kiera Knightley is another great choice for actress, so I'm pleased.
Not sure about Oliver Platt's bit in Casanova, which didn't look to be anything special from the trailers. We'll see?
Also great to see late mentions for Constant Gardener, though I would probably give Joe Wright a win if the awards ceremonies were held right now....

WTF? Platt??? Can't get any hammier than him.
Nice to see Amy Adams again... and Keira!!!!
They still went with their tradition of honoring a small movie for best film.

Go Keira Knightley and Amy Adams!
Oliver Platt? For playing the "rotund" man in Casanova? Eh?

I think Amy Adams is locking up a nomination.

BTW...Syriana with another mention. See if anybody can project their feelings here too and make it go away.
Actually, these little critic circles awards never really impress me much in connection with academy voters. We may as well vote in this forum and would get just as close if not closer.

Mav, you know as well as anyone else that Syriana will not be nominated for Best Picture.
Shame on you.

Only if Munich sucks does it have a shot now, but I think one relevant movie will be getting in. Maybe Crash?

Isn't that what Brokeback and Good Night are for?

Perhaps but they're not as socially relevant in our everyday lives as Crash's content was. The movie was a button pusher. It remains to be seen if Brokeback will have the same affect, but Good Night, and Good Luck, as great as it was, didn't really stimulate too much discusiions.

Hmmm... I would say Brokeback has more in connection with half this board than Crash does. In fact, I think Brokeback and Good Night and A History of Violence is more socially relevant directly to me than Crash was.
Your point is not invalid though.

What's a shame, is that it looks like Crash could have been a 100 million grosser if they would have waited and released it in November. It also might be one of the frontrunners for some major awards.

I would agree with this.
I also think they should have waited until late November to do the DVD/Oprah special.

That Oprah special was an embarassment. That blue-eyed guy made me sick with his bitching.

Imagine how great it would have been had they never released it.

Unfortunately (or fortunately?) when it comes to Crash, LGF (Lions Gate) is a big issue here, being that they've never got anything nominated.

Woohoo for Downfall (even though it is not eligible for the Oscars, but whatever).
Amy Adams seems locked up for a nomination as of now.
Great news for Knightley.

Oliver Platt??? Seriously, I think the Crash love is plot against us. Were the hell did Oliver Platt come from, as if the male actors racing didn'have enough possibilities. loyalfromlondon wrote: andaroo wrote: Maverikk wrote: What's a shame, is that it looks like Crash could have been a 100 million grosser if they would have waited and released it in November. Crash's ploy for BP is that it hired every single actor in Hollywood to be in it, so now it has all the support of the acting branch because obviously they will vote for themselves!
And then people like Sandra Bullock is calling up people like Goldie Hawn and is all like:
Sandra: Hello Goldie!
Goldie: What up girl! Whachadoin'?
Sandra: Oh, just filling out my Oscar ballot... say, did you see Crash?
Goldie: Oh yeah, well, I thought the movie wasn't that goo...
Sandra: What do you mean?
Goldie: Oh I mean, well, I just didn't think...
Sandra: How can you be so insensitive?
Goldie: Hold on I...
Sandra: No, how can you be so insensitive when you live in a big house with lots of money and Mexican housekeepers
Goldie: Don't take offensie I...
Sandra: It's almost like you are racist.
Goldie: Oh wait, HOLD ON a minute...
Sandra: <starts to cry> This is so disheartening.
Goldie: I'm not racist! Okay I will vote for Crash!
Sandra: Thank you, hey did you get a new purse?
Goldie: Absolutely, I went down to Marcus' on fifth street and...

Pretty good selection. And I'm pretty sure Hoffman is a shew-in for the Oscar win by now. I haven't seen everything, but nice sight on Adams, who looks more and more an Academy nomineee with each passing day. Syriana wasn't that impressive. Downfall is spectacular and really lost out last year when no one had heard of it.
But really, I wish for this thread to be locked.
