Post What theater plays have you seen? Which were the best?
Tonight I bored so in my travels out I happened to pick up theater tickets to Les Mis and Chicago ( both of which I have seen before but both were the London versions and about 3 years ago.

For me the only thing that I make sure is that you get pretty close to center stage within the first 5/6 rows. Going to the theater infrequently, maybe once a quarter, I feel you should pay the extra money for the better seats.

What are some of the plays you have seen? Which were the best ones?

I mainly see the bigger shows now as compared to the mixture of bigger and smaller plays that I use to see.

Some of the bigger ones include.

- Phantom of the Opera - probably my favorite
- Les Miserables
- Chicago
- Fosse
- West Side Story
- The Producers
- A Funny Thing happened on the way to the Forum - With Nathan Lane.
- All 37 Shakespearean plays in an 1.5 hours - think that was the name.
- The Lion King
- Beauty and the Beast
- Little Shop of Horrors
- Tommy
- Grease

I saw the Producers at the Pantages theater in Hollywood last year. It starred Jason Alexander and Martin Short. It was a great experience, and extremely hilarious. Jason and Martin did great jobs in their roles.

I think you might be talking about "The Complete Works of William Shakespearre - Abridged" I've never seen it, but my friend at the next high school over has doen it.

I love the theater. I'm rather asahmed, though, that I haven't seen much. The nearest theaters with professional shows are all downtown, 30 minutes away.

I do recomend the musical "Into the Woods" to everyone.

I hate the music from "Into the Woods". Plus, the play itself is way overused in HS productions.

I've seen tons of plays...

In New York:
The Lion King
Fame
The Music Man

In Washington, DC:
Camelot
The Producers (Alan Ruck version)
I'm Not Rappaport
Cats (2x)
Phantom of the Opera (2x)
The Music Man
Annie Get Your Gun
Beauty and the Beast
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Man of La Mancha
Little Shop of Horrors
West Side Story
Evita
Tommy (2x)
Show Boat
Fidler on the Roof (2x)
Les Miserables
Grease
Something like "Tommy Joe's Cafe" where they just sang and danced to a number of songs.

Probably some other ones...

School Productions:
Into the Woods
Steel Magnolias
Les Miserables
Annie
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
James and the Giant Peach
(And, I'm playing in the pit in our school prod. of Chess...so much work, bleh. ;))

A couple operas too...

Someone who works with my mom also has a role in a lil' theater company, so I've seen some of her plays too (though, most are REALLY raunchy. One is called "Naked Boys Singing", which, thankfully, I never saw!)

I saw that there also. I thought they were very good though I wish I caught it with Nathan Lane.

I liked the one line by Jason Alexander - Well I am no Nathan Lane.

That might have been it, I saw it in London and it was put on by 2/3 guys who did bits from all of his plays.

Some were very short like 1, I think, they mentioned the name and said no one wants to hear that one.

Yeah, probably. I know three high schools here that have done it, and two colleges. But if you ever find a copy of the original Broadway version, from 89ish, watch it. Fantastic acting. I have it on DVD somewhere.

Recently, The Exonerated... Bob Balaban, produced..

Growing up I used to see productions of classics at a college/commmunity level theater.. Arsenic and Old Lace, Death Takes a Holiday, etc. These were quiet enjoyable, being close to the stage and especially seeing 'town-people' as actors.. Imagine seeing your math teacher on stage mixing poison, I mean medicine for the malaria victims...
