Wow, it was even worse then Shark Tale, though at least it wasn't the cinematic disaster that was Robots.

Boring and uninspired. At least Shark Tale had some interesting voice casting and a good idea, even if it was poorly executed. The only part that was really that great was the 'dance' when they first arrived on the island. I'll be generous and give it a C-.

You got that right. And they're all so misplaced. So horrible.
Pretty much what most people have said: penguins were great, the four leads... not so much.

What a waist of time, worst CGI film ever created, getting worse than this would be quite hard considering the quality of the majority of CGIs.

The penguins were awesome, gave me my only laugh-out-loud moments the entire film. Everything else....not so much. Many of the jokes fell flat, and, unlike some here, the lemurs flat-out annoyed me. The story was lacking, tyhe characters were flat, and the climax (or lack thereof) was certainly not final enough. In fact, there wasn't a consistant conflict throughout the film. The certainly works for some movies, but for movies like this, small dispersed conflicts don't work as well as one overall conflict.
As for the animation, I disagree with most here. Some of the shots were very well done. I won't deny that. One in particular had me fooled for actual real-life footage. But there are some other things that I just can't forgive...the character models were absolutely horrid, and the lighting was just...bland. It wasn't shown much, but Dreamworks really needs to work on their water physics.

I finally caught this on HBO, what a bad film, and I though Ice age was just all right, that is great compared to this. Ben Stiller, I love him to death, but he was awful, so was suprisingly all the leads. The penguins were great though. Other than that, the quality of the film looks like a PS game.

Madagascar
I really enjoyed this. At first I thought that the animation was like a computer game and quite transparent, but after a while I warmed to it and realised that it was more likely the iPad screen. I liked the characters a lot here; David Schwimmer arguably gives his best performance in anything post-Friends, very funny as Melman the giraffe, while Ben Stiller is great as Alex The Great Lion, he provides the voice for the central character very well - kind and gentle as it's for kids. I wasn't as fond of Jada Pinkett-Smith as the hippo, Gloria, but Chris Rock did a good job as the zebra, Marty. The penguins were indeed great.
It's funny, the story is good, it's short, quick to the punch lines and it's all very easy to watch. I want to know more about these characters now, I want to watch Escape 2 Africa and Europe's Most Wanted as soon as possible. I'm a fan of Ice Age, but I think Madagascar is actually better. While I adore Sid and the gang, Madagascar just has that quality that Fox cannot seem to find. At least I can have an opinion in the debate for the best CGI-animated series now. These movies are just so sweet and adorable that it's kind of cold-hearted to grade them so low. I appreciate the work that the animators do to make these. While no where near the upper echelons of the 3D animated movie genre (The Incredibles and Monster's, Inc.), it's a nice addition nonetheless.

 Re: Madagascar
Boring and stupid film, but much better than the lame sequel, ( Mad 2) which is the worst of the series, however I did quite enjoy Mad 3

C Though my grade for the first is slightly better (B-), I completely agree with you on the rest. The first one was so-so, the second flat-out terrible and the third actually good.

 Re: Madagascar
An improvement on Shark Tale, Madagascar has great animation and likable memorable characters, even if it sometimes feels like they don’t take the zany premise far enough.
