What another dead category this year. Eminem has one an Oscar, so no suggestion is too out of place for this category. Does 50 Cent have a new song for his movie?

Does Rent and The Producers have some bait? What about Walk the Line?

Given the past victories for a Curtis Hanson film..

Does In Her Shoes have an original song?


And what about Elizabethtown? At this point, everything is possible, even if there's movie with very mixed reviews like this one..

I'm not sure if Rent or The Producers feature any original songs.

And I guess Hitchhiker's So Long And Thanks For All The Fish doesn't qualify.

Maybe one of the three songs from the Harry Potter soundtrack? I'd guess either "Magic Works" or "This Is The Night"; "Do the Hippogriff" is just a bit too silly to be nominated for an Oscar.... I would probably place my bets on "Magic Works".

On the DVD for Hitchhiker's Guide, it says that "So Long and Thanks for all the Fish" song was original?

"Magic Works" has potential, but it's a little left field. I was thinking about that last night.

Oh, yeah, totally forgot about Corpse Bride. I can so see either Tears to Shed or Remains of the Day being nominated. Personally, I'd love to see Remains of the Day nominated; I love that song!

The only song I remember from Corpse Bride is "According to Plan", the rest is a bit blurry. The score is great but the songs...

I think a film like Geisha could easily have a nominated song. One, it's Mr. Chicago Marshall. And two, if Cold Mountain can have, what 3 nominated songs, I think anything is possible.

I'd agree with Roo on Corpse Bride. The songs of forgettable but maybe it's a situation where they desperately need songs to nominate and CB simply fits the bill. Poor songs, much better score.

Note- In Chicken Little, Barenaked Ladies sing a song called One Little Slip. I've seen family channel ad/videos for it with it playing. They get slight respect, could probably be this years Accidentley in Love.

Makes up for the fact that recent best song nominees have been lackluster, not fun, and do not hit the Billboard charts (I think Accidentally in Love peaked at 37). Not that popularity is a sign of creative excellence, though.

You guys liked the Cold Mountain songs? REALLY? "You Are My Ain True Love?" *Shudder* And I liked the movie a lot.

I've also heard that wretched Chicken Little song. It even *sounds* like Accidentally In Love, which was bad enough to begin with. So watch for it.

I remember how disappointed I was last year when Mick Jagger wasn't nominated for "Old Habits Die Hard" from Alfie. It wasn't a great song by any means...but I thought it was a good, catchy pop song, and far, far better than any of the garbage they did nominate. It seems like every year they go our of their way (OHDH seemed like SUCH a lock...it won the Globe) just to fuck up this category. It's fascinating.

Well now, so I guess we have info which songs are original and which are being pushed. Thank God they are doing the bake-off, so that means Academy members have to sit through special presentations of the song samples. It *could* work against manipulative power ballads since the Academy members may very well be bored during the whole ordeal and upbeat songs can get notice. "So Long And Thanks For All The Fish's" paperwork should be submitted now or else they get disqualified, just like Clint's score for Million Dollar Baby (incomplete/unsubmitted paperwork).

I think "It's Hard out here for a pimp" might have some chance of getting nominated. In my opinion when that actress sang that chorus line was one of the best scenes of the year and gave me chills! I still listen to the song and I don't like rap!!

I love In the Deep, but I had no idea it was original.

Looks like this one's pretty much wide open as of now.

This is usually a category I'm quite bad at, so I won't bother.

I do think that the song from The Producers will almost definitely get nominated, though.
